Surrounded by the Potomac Basin this is a must stop visit, especially at night. Nice place to take a lunch break.

Sadly Under Construction
Dec 2019 • Family
Though clearly work is often needed to maintain these great pieces of architecture, the Jefferson Memorial is currently under construction. Covered in scaffolding on multiple areas but you can see the dome more now. Remains open, still can access Jefferson’s statue.

Tip: Parking is very tight over here so take a tour bus or the DC Circulator.

Under construction but open
Mar 2021 • Family
The outside is covered in scaffolding to do roof cleaning and repairs, so the best exterior photo ops are across the water at a distance, but the interior looks great and is open to visitors!

Grand!

Having been to Jefferson Memorial before I still couldn’t miss a chance to visit it again as my stay in DC provided me with some free time.
Notwithstanding the fact that they are doing restoration work on the cupola and the roof and the outside of the building is covered in scaffolding and the outside doesn’t look as magnificent as usually, the place is full of the feeling of grandeur and awe.
The inside is as impressive as ever and the presence of the great man is almost palpable. This being off season, I happened to be entirely alone there and it was such a great feeling as if I was listening to Jefferson reading out his words that are captured there on the panels.
This memorial appears to me to be a deserving tribute to one of the greatest minds not only of his time but rather of all times.

Awesome
Dec 2020
We saw from the interstate that the monument is having work done, particularly the roof. There is scaffolding all around it yet you can go inside. Traveling at this time of year was to almost have these open monuments void of the typical crowds.
This monument is quite a distance from the others but worth the effort to get here. We had no trouble with parking, again due to the time of year of this visit ~ cold weather, I recommend you dress warm and wear comfortable shoes.
One thing a little frustrating was the signs for the shop / museum underneath the statue that indicated it was open but it was not. Per the times posted clearly on the door, it should have been opened. No one in sight!? We were able to use the restroom facilities as they were not locked. Later we saw a park ranger on the steps speaking to a couple but I have no idea where she came from.

Jefferson Memorial Review

Highly recommend booking a bike tour to see this memorial and the many others in D.C.. There are so many fun details, facts, and history you would miss out on without a tour.

So Empty...So Strange
Aug 2020 • Couples
As a lifelong Washingtonian, I’ve been to the memorial hundreds of times. With no real ability to travel far because of Covid, we decided to bike down and pretend that we were tourists in our own town. First of all, the monument is being restored, which is a good thing, but it looks very strange with the scaffolding. Layer on top of that the fact that the entire place was deserted on a summer Friday afternoon, and it looks like a real-world apocalyptic movie.

Beautiful Memorial
Jul 2020
A beautiful memorial and serene surroundings. It was under construction for roof refurbishment when we were there, but you can still go inside and look around. The DC Circulator buses were not running, so we parked in the closest pay lot. It is a bit of a walk, but was the closest available parking.

America's father; the 3rd president
Aug 2019
Resting by the Potomac river, you can easily get here on a guided tour by bus like I did, but it's not too far from other iconic parts of Washington DC such as the Washington monument and the Lincoln memorial. Once you enter the memorial you'll find a large circular room, at the centre of which stands a huge black statue of Thomas Jefferson, the Third president of the United states. On the four walls surrounding the statue are written some of his most famous quotes, the most famous of which is the quote from his most famous work, the Declaration of independence. 'We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal.' Underneath that room rests a small museum describing his life from his upbringing in Monticello in the south to his involvement in America being founded and his time as president. Remember to be quiet and respectful, taking photos is fine but you can be arrested for things such as dancing by the statue so be careful. The building looks like something from ancient Greece, like the Lincoln memorial and you get a lovely view of the river on a sunny day, so make sure you check the weather before you go.
