Now I could only take a "peek" hundreds of feet away. World has really changed. But don't get me wrong - as long as you are in DC, a peek, a glimpse, whatever it is... is needed in order to complete your trip:-)

We saw it from the back this time. You can't really see much with all the trees in all their full glory. Looks like any shot you can see on a postcard. Nothing really spectacular really except when the sharp shooters came out on the...More

I was with a tour group that was looking forward to seeing the White House close up but the public were prohibited from going nearer than the fence. The secret service said there was an event and the public were not allowed near. The nearest I...More

It is a sad thing that we cannot visit a place that technically belongs to ALL of us because of a few jerks who ruins it for the rest of us! I was told that one needs an appointment just to go inside now! At...More

We were let off and walked some to get a view of the White House, which is very well guarded. Police on bikes, skates, horses, police dogs everywhere, which was expected. Lots of people trying to get a glimpse. Such an important house - so...More

The building is iconic. It symbolizes power and hence the craze. It is not just a building, it is something you would like to describe to others that you had a glimpse of it at the location. As it names, it is white, looks a...More

The chain link fencing around the front and back definitely does not make it look as beautiful as it is. It is hard to get anywhere somewhat close for a picture. From the back the furthest point of the south lawn was the only straight...More

It's not like you can get close to it. We tried to see it on our 2nd day in D.C. but all roads leading to it were closed. I understand this is a common occurrence. So we tried again and we're able to view( ?)...More

I was visiting DC and was lucky enough to get an opportunity to visit the White House. The history of the building was very evident and interesting. The Presidential portraits, furniture and decor made this a great visit. As a Canadian I was very impressed...More

I already read of the prohibited items online (no strollers, bags, food/water, etc.) I am traveling with 3 kids ages 15 months, 3 and 5 and will have both a double stroller plus a single stroller so not having these items when we don't have a car in DC is a non starter. Since we have 3 adults, could one of the adults wait with all our "stuff" and the adults take turns to go into the visitor center? Is there a waiting spot? If not we will just skip this.

There is no waiting spot, except outside the gates. The tours are scheduled, so you would have to take two tours. Once in line to get in, there are 3 security checks before you actually get inside. This routine takes about... More

The White House does not have a dress code, but since the is the best address in the nation, it's appropriate to be respectful and not dress too casual. Skip the shorts and jeans and flip flops and aim for a 'business... More

We finally got our confirmation to see the White House on May 18th! I'm pretty excited, but still wondering a bit what we're going to see. I've seen the map from the website, so not talking about the inside, but do you get to walk around the outside and tour the gardens?

no. I'm sorry to say this but, you do not get to wander the White House lawn or grounds. While we were there, there were meetings in some of the locations the public does not have access to. You will see half a dozen rooms... More
