This is one amazing drive. Make sure to stop at the pull outs. The views are really incredible. The road gets pretty crazy at times, but it is fun. My uncle who doesn't like heights didn't like this at all. But I loved it. There are one lane tunnels along the way. If you are patient and take your time... More

This scenic byway is 70 miles long and includes Needles Highway, Iron Mountain Road, Sylvan Lake Road, and others. To say that this is just a scenic byway would be an understatement as you see some absolutely stunning scenery along the way from towering granite spires, tunnels carved through granite, pig-tail bridges, hairpin turns, and wildlife. This is one of... More

My wife and I rode the Peter Norbec Scenic Byway in early June. Iron Mountain Road and Needles Highway are both amazing. I can't say enough about the beauty of nature in this area. We also enjoyed the wildlife loop through Custer State Park. It is definitely worth the time.

Loved the tunnels and cork screw roads. View of Mt Rushmore thru that on tunnel was absolutely amazing. Almost wanted to do another loop. Going in winter was awesome - no traffic.

If your are in South Dakota then this scenic drive is a must do. It comprises four highways, so you will no doubt use part of it in getting round. One of my favourite sections is the Needles Highway. As we wound our way around the twisting road we saw shaggy white mountain goats eating, lots of squirrels scurrying across... More

We took this trip in a bus. I can only imagine how fun it would be in a car or motorcycle. The scenery is beyond words. The one thing you MUST do...when driving through a tunnel, be sure to note how Mound Rushmore is framed within the tunnel. The engineers of the byway specifically designed the tunnels to showcase Mount... More

This is a beautiful drive, thoughtfully laid out to showcase the beautiful scenery of the Black Hills. We rode this Byway on our motorcycle along with 5 other couples who were with us for the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Beautiful twisty scenic ride - loved it!!!

This is a must-see drive in the Black Hills. Absolutely stunning scenery, one lane tunnels (one of which frames a view of Mt. Rushmore) trestle bridges - just spectacular.
