We started in La Grande and followed it to Joseph and all of that was Farms and Grasslands then we took 39 out of Joseph and it entered the forest following a rough, patched up windy road for 43 miles with the same identical view...More

With the Snake River running high, the Hells Canyon Dam was very impressive. The drive to the dam and the visitor center was very picturesque. We even saw a bear on the road. The road was paved to the end.

Drove the road to the dam...spectacular scenery...only a few towns on the way but as you approach the dam the cliffs rising from the green hued water against the blue sky is not to be missed...we wondered what it would be like to come in...More

The part I loved best was along NF 39 and the overlook. Really beautiful and hair raising driving. But really, all of it was excellent!

We travelled in from the Idaho side on a cold ,wet September day. This road is not one to lose your concentration on, it is twisty, very steep in places with no barrier. It is however an extremely beautiful drive in any conditions. You get...More

A smokey visit. The Oregon scenic byway was a pretty picturesque winding mountain road but smoke limited the visibility at viewpoints I feel like the area would be better seen from the Idaho side at river level road or on the river itself by either...More

Hess road is a steep and unpaved road. It's more of an SUV/Jeep high clearance road. I wouldn't take a sedan or low clearance vehicle on it.
