Majestic, beautiful views at the top, but not well kept

I stumbled upon this wonderful place on accident with a friend. We decided to drive over and climb to the top. It's a much harder climb than it looks! But when you get to the top... read more

What a Dump! Literally--horrible pits of garbage, noisy dune-buggies. Made the mistake of driving down the road to this place because "Road Trip USA" calls it the "singing sand dune." Which only sings when the wind is blowing and the buggies aren't running. The WORST thing about it was the road leading to it--beautifully paved, but with speed trenches that... More

I stumbled upon this wonderful place on accident with a friend. We decided to drive over and climb to the top. It's a much harder climb than it looks! But when you get to the top it's so beautiful. I took a lot of amazing photos there. My one complaint is unfortunately there is a lot of litter. Also I... More

We were in Fallon, Nevada, and went there to see Sand Mountain, it was Halloween, and there was a "city" of campers there. It was like "Mad Max" with all terrain, bikes going up the mountain and back. People were very nice, even had the chance to ride in a buggy! At night, there were lights everywhere in the mountain.... I was so excited to see what appeared to be Sahara-like sand dunes rising from the desert off Highway 50. I drove the mile or so on a paved road heading towards the dunes (WARNING: there are deep dips in the road - GO SLOW or you will lose the front of your vehicle). The dunes looked so majestic from... We had read about Sand Mountain and as were heading to Fallon on Highway 50 and decided to take a look. A family with a couple of sand buggies were finishing off and so we had the mountain to ourselves. My wife and so decided to hike to the top and all credit to them made it as it's hard... More

I have friends that go out here all the time. Last month was the first time for me on my Raptor 700. This place was and is so fun and exciting. Be careful when and if you get stuck in the sand because you could rooster yourself and get sand everywhere and in places you might find later. I didn't... More

If this was off limits to ATVs it would be a fantastic place. Tire tracks all over the dunes. We were lucky there were very few people there. I would imagine on a crowded weekend it would be a mess. There was quite a bit of debris littering the area and on the dunes. Certainly not pristine. The dunes are... More

This is a giant pile of sand that is loads of fun. On weekends, you'll find lots of ATV's crawling the mountain. There are restrooms and lots of parking, but if you don't have 4WD, be careful, as it's easy to get stuck in the deeper sand. There is no fee on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and those days are usually... Drove out the 23 miles from Fallon on Hwy 50 and took a walk about the place. Definitely a huge pile of sand. I would describe it as an ATV driver's dream. Place is located in a remote area so there is no water though it has several restroom facilities. Camping is allowed and a 7-day pass is $40. As... More

I spent the last week camping at Sand Mountain and had a blast on side by sides. There were many families. In addition to the mountain there is aa great place for kids to ride their dirt bikes or quads, I saw kids as young as 5 riding on a safe but fun track. Bathrooms are "nice outhouses". You need...
