Not only is this one of the most beautiful places in Montana, but the history here is very interesting. This is where the Nez Perce were attacked by the US Army and it didn't work out all that well for the Nez Perce. There is a very good visitor center here that will tell you all about the history.

If you drive from I-15 west onto route 43 west along Big Hole River toward route 93, you won't be disappointed. You'll drive thru a wide, deep valley, Montana's Big Hole Country, a beautiful area with 6,000 foot elevation praise basin flanked by snowcapped peaks. We floated 3 times from Salmon Fly to Browns, saw moose, golden eagles, bald eagles, deer with fauns, various ducks and other birds, and caught fish. Very peaceful---pretty much cannot see the highway or the road

I have spent plenty of time on the Big Hole river and is that valley and it remains unspoiled and offers adventure on the water as well as in the surrounding Mountains.
