We started just north of Clinton and biked to Davenport! The beginning portion of the trail can be a bit tricky as it goes off the beaten path, but for the most part it was easy to navigate. We enjoyed a beautiful day biking down the river, thru little towns, and past pretty parks.

Ride 50 mile loop - Rock Island to Cordova and back. Paved trail the whole way. Very few stops. For the most part the trail is well maintained, except for a few parts in the Quad Cities. The Mississippi is always within sight. This part of Illinois is pretty sparsely populated. River towns are quaint and small. The rusting underbelly... More

Other than a short 1/2 mile on a gravel road, this trail is completely paved. Signage is poor, especially through the little towns. We enjoyed riding our trikes and will return again.

The +60 mile distance can be ridden 95 percent on dedicated trail. The rest on VERY low traffic roads.

From near the Rock River to Savanna Illinois the Great River Trail covers some 60 miles. Much of this is along the River, on bike trails or, execpt for 1 highway mile, a few miles or low traffic roads. Paving of the last few miles of trail into Savnana will be completed this spring. After leaving the riverside trails in the... More
