I occasionally use the Surfliner to get t an from San Diego to San Juan Capistrano. It's a great way to eliminate the stress of driving and get a bit caught up on calls and paper work. If I buy the pass I save money compared to my gas costs too!

If I could give negative stars I would. Yesterday's round trip to Los Angeles from SanDiego was the trip from hell. Trains 565 and 764. Both trains broke down and each trip was delayed by at least 2 hours. No information from conductors, no clue or assistance what so ever. Train 764 from LA took the cake- 15 min from... More

We are very sorry about the delays that occurred during your trip. On April 15, when you traveled, Train 565 was delayed due to a track inspection north of Oceanside and waiting for southbound trains to pass. Train 784 had mechanical issues, and had to wait in Sorrento Valley for technicians to correct the problem. It arrived in San Diego... More

Recently took the pacific surfliner from SD to LA. I learned a few things researching, planning for and executing this trip: 1. Coach seats are as advertised, unreserved. So first come first served. And it's possible some will be standing for the duration of the trip. 2. SD has two stops. Downtown (no parking) and Old Town (free parking if... More

Pacific Ocean and mountain views from Ventura to San Luis Obispo are worth experiencing sitting back in business class of the train instead of driving. Coach cars may turn into standing room only as it is a commuter train also. Business has reserved seats but not assigned seats. Headed north, take seats on the left side. Riding back south, stay... Had to travel to San Diego for business, and thought I would save gas and travel by train from Anaheim to San Diego on a Sunday at noon . I will say the attendant at the Anaheim station baggage check was friendly and helpful. I booked a business class seat. The train arrived on time and I was "greater" by... More

Hello, we're sorry to read that you did not have a good experience with us. We work hard to offer customers a great trip in every aspect from start to finish, and want to make corrections if something is not right. Regarding the group seating, there is generally a sign above the table indicating such, but it sounds like it... More

Pros: No driving, no traffic Cafe car with food, beer, and liquor Traditional power outlets to power up your phones, tablets and computers Plenty of leg room, even in coach Cons: A little pricey, even more so in Business Class No guaranteed seating in Coach--which isn't a big deal except on holidays On time about 70% of the time (in... A nice, scenic, and relaxing way to travel. Found the staff very friendly and helpful. We upgraded to business class and found it worth it. The seats are comfortable, recline some, and have power. Light snacks are offered as well as coffee, water and wine in business class. The train also has a car for purchasing food. We took the... More

I have used the Amtrak pacific surf liner from the Santa Fe station to Union station for many years. I also take the fly a way bus to LAX, I really like the business class on the train. The business class lounge in Union Station is very nice. Food, Wi-Fi, television, coffee.

Before I begin with my 16 year critique I want to say I have met some very nice people over the years who work for Amtrak... and then there are some who really hate their job and make things less than optimal for people traveling on the trains. The biggest problem with Amtrak is their "ontime" performance...or lack thereof. I... More

The best way to travel from San Diego to the Central Coast is on the Pacific Surfliner. Relax and enjoy the scenery as you bypass the freeways. The upper deck seats give one outstanding panoramas of the coastline as rails. The seats are comfortable and depending on the time you travel one has a choice of seats. If one avoids... More
