We boarded the train in Los Angeles and rode it to Portland, OR. The scenery is spectacular. We live in Ft Lauderdale so the landscape up the coast was a welcome sight. Unfortunately the train blew an engine and we were delayed almost 7 hours...More

The Coast Starlight is an enjoyable and relaxing way to travel along the west coast of the US, especially between major cities where a car may not be needed. We took the train from Seattle to Portland, and though the trip was short, it was...More

We booked this because my husband no longer drives and I did not feel confident taking on such a long drive from San Francisco to Los Angeles without help. I also liked the idea of a different form of transport to the stress of flying....More

During this Amtrak adventure my daughter Ren and I visited 24 states, D.C., and 19 state capitols and covered 7800+ miles in two weeks. The food was good in the regular diner car, however Outstanding in the Pacific Parlor car. The lamb was the best...More

I travelled from Oakland San Francisco to Oxnard California and despite having a reserved seat spent the whole journey in the Viewing Carriage. The views are unsurpassed with the glass windows curving around from the roof down the sides of the carriage. The landscape is...More

We took Amtrak's Coast Starlight from Seattle to Emeryville (San Francisco area) which was an overnight trip. Our bedroom cabin was comfortable during the day and nice to have or own bathroom, but it was VERY crowded at night once the beds were made up....More

One of the better Amtrak routes. Fantastic scenery along the southern California coast, truck garden farming, beautiful ocean views, etc., good food in dining car.
