My family and I went on a hiking trip through the Ponca Wilderness Area. After visiting Hemmed-in Hollow, we decided to see the famous Buffalo River. The river was placid and serene while we were there. It seemed to be a great place to stop for a picnic (if we would have thought ahead, we would have done just that!).... More

I go there every year for canoeing or kayaking! It's also a great place to hike and I've seen lots of horseback riding in the area. There is a lot of history in that region with old cabins and homeplaces that are open to the public. However, if you plan on floating, don't go after about mid-July!

Pictures really don't do this place any justice. It is just beautiful. If you are going to canoe, I recommend either taking the longer trip (ours was 10 miles) or going on a week day. We went on a Saturday from Baker's Ford to Gilbert. Once we hit Tyler's Bend, there were a ton of people. During the first part... More

If you are in the area you must float the Buffalo River! The Buffalo River guide services offer canoe rentals and shuttle service. The bus ride back is an experience in itself...Mr Toad's Wild Ride! So much fun! It is a scenic beautiful float. You will see scenery you can't view from the road. The Buffalo River was the first... More

My daughter and I stayed at Mt Nebo and rook a day trip to the Buffalo River. We drove a little past Jasper and found a place where we could get in and go swimming. It was sooooo beautiful! The water was clean and clear and not too cold. We had a great time.

My husband and I came back to Buffalo Pt. like we have since we were children. Had a wonderful time swimming, made a 15 mile kayak trip and walked trails. Beautiful place with friendly business owners. One of many great places to visit in Arkansas. A great place to bring your whole family or come as a couple. Something for... More

Just went here and had an excellent time. It was an easy float and we were lucky enough to see a bald eagle fly right over us while we were there. It was a long day on the river but we packed a cooler with lunch and drinks and had a great time.

BEAUTIFUL! We live nearby and float every year. Water levels will determine the section of river you can float. The pics are from lower river near Hwy. 14 bridge. We usually float from the bridge to Rush. I suggest calling an outfitter. We use Wild Bill's.

For many Arkansans, this is the gem of the state. It is easy to see why. We did a one day canoeing trip down a section of it (we used Buffalo Outdoor Center located at Ponca) and had a great time. The river can be very shallow in parts, requiring you to "walk" the canine along, but there are several... More
