Great hike

Went with my wife and hiked in a bit. Beautiful views. Easy hike. The Barnhardt trail head is a LONG way in. On a rocky dirt road. We did it in a smart car and it was a bad idea.

Went with my wife and hiked in a bit. Beautiful views. Easy hike. The Barnhardt trail head is a LONG way in. On a rocky dirt road. We did it in a smart car and it was a bad idea.

So, this is how I planned it. I left Show Low the night before, drive in the rain to the Mazatzal turn-off and headed up the mountain in the pitch darkeness, which was kinda frightening...there were lots of field mice traversing the dirt road which seemed to be "well-maintained" with the exception of the ominous dips into the blackness (because... The Mazatzal Wilderness Area is true wilderness, once you leave the area of the Barnhardt Mesa parking lot. Strong hikers can easily walk around the peak in two fairly easy days. There isn't much water to be found, so carry in everything you'll need. There are a couple of stone catchments, or "tanks," along the way, but they're completely dependent... More

Have you ever considered Mazatlan for Carnival? With all the bad press Mexico as a whole is getting people are flocking by the thousands the other way.I am in Mazatlan for the second year. This time I planned to take in Carnival. One would be hard pressed to agree with the negative comments about safety in Mexico after seeing this!... More
