Hanabanilla is a beautiful, untouched paradise. It is about an hour drive from Santa clara. The little boats are usually waiting on the shore. The water of the lake is crystal clear, fresh and invigorating. I couldn't help to strip off my clothes and jump in head first. Then we stopped at a guajiro's house -where there has never been... Arriving at night the supper was clearly the lunches left overs reheated. The breakfast was even worst. My friend ate a tiny piece of a stale biscotti piece and was sick for a couple of days with stomach cramps and diarrhea. The rest of the trip she burped the staled cake. Two within our 15-person group were stolen in their... More

We were here for 1 night as part of a travelling group. Overall we enjoyed our stay and loved the pool area. The meals were good too. The only negative is that we didn't have any hot water for a shower, actually our whole wing didn't have hot water so that was very disappointing especially after a long day. The... More

This place is amazing. We were here a few years back and camped on the grounds of a local house. The hotel is dated but the bar is nicely stocked and prices are not outrageous. Nice ferry ride to Rio Negro where there is a good restaurant with creole food or you could try the local fish. We will definitely... More

Embalse Hanabanilla is a huge lake between the mountains in the Escambray. It measure up to 600 meters depth. You can make a boat trip on the lake, the lake is a natural habitat of sweet water turtles and you will see them drying in the sun on a drifting piece of wood.

Worth looking at if you were driving between Trinidad and Santa Clara as we were to see the Che memorial - otherwise not worth a special trip. The drive itself over the mountains is beautiful and there are spots where you can look right across to the sea. Lovely scenery and the drive over the mountains is more scenic than... More

Great nature! I went there with a guide and a driver. They know where to go and how to drive. Roads are steep and bad, you need 4 wheel drive and experience. Had dinner at a fisherman's place, never ever had better fish in my life.
