This is a well setup/presented museum that does a great job of putting local history on display. Of particular interest is the focus on whaling history with plenty of artifacts, pictures and information panels. If you're lucky there may even be an ex-whaler there to...More

You'll learn about local history, original items in exhibits. Very good stuff, one of them actually worked with the equipment on display.

Some good insights into the early days of the whaling industry in the area, with friendly and informative staff. Loved the Orca skull!

We looked around relatively quickly, mostly populated with quirky collections that have been donated to the museum. If you are interested in whaling there may be more to interest you.

A well kept display of yesteryear found family records from the 1800's, the lady collecting the entrance fee was very helpful and lots of information of Picton and its whaling days

For a regional society backed museum, Picton exceeds expectations. It is packed with genuine artifacts and full of stories about the people, families and business that built Picton and the Marlborough Sounds. Beautiful Pounamu and carvings are on display as well as whaling tools and...More
