The Giant's House - A historic Akaroa house with original artworks, terraced gardens with sculptures and mosaics. Very Unique. A creative feast and a wonderful experience. Romantic secluded and quiet, but only a few minutes walk to the centre of Akaroa. The Giant's House was the first bank managers house in Akaroa, built 1880 of totara and kauri. It is grand in size, proportions, and features. Elegant and comfortable, it is designed and decorated in the french style. Being the home of an artist it balances and contrasts the historic and contemporary. Both the house and terraced gardens are full of surprises -expect the unexpected at The Giant's House!

From the moment that you enter this unique garden area with its truly amazing works of ceramic art, you will be spellbound by the artistry, the scale of the art works, and the vision and sheer hard work by the artist over a considerable period...More

Although Akaroa is a stunningly beautiful place the icing on the cake is a visit to The Giant's House. A wonderful collection of sculptures which are covered with brightly coloured mosaics and positioned on various levels of this tiered garden. Marvel at the skill of...More

When you enter the Giant's House yard you're struck by three things: 1 - these attractions are huge, 2 - OMG.. they're made out of tiny mosaic and/or glass. 3-This is incredible art. You can't help but smile and each piece is unlike anything you've...More

Sometimes these types of places are poorly set up tourist traps. Not so with the giants house. The Giant’s House is a restored historical home (which you can just peek in) with an amazing set of gardens. The plants are merely the punctuation in what...More

The Giants garden was recommended by a friend and I was not disappointed. It has the most wonderful mosaics and coordinated garden. The colourful flowers and plants were at their full potential. Absolutely gorgeous and so worth the visit.

Amazing garden, quite possibly more impressive than Barcelona’s Parc Guell. Really playful and incredible imagination, like a children’s book come to life

Not just all the crazy tiled sculptures but even the plants are well kept. The garden winds up a hill and has various seating to enjoy the garden and the views. Must have taken a lot of work and is worth the $20.

It was a gorgeous sunny day to walk up here and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this unique and delightful garden. This was recommended by the owner of the B&B where we stayed and we're so glad that he told us about it!

Everything inside is beautiful. Mom likes it very much and doesn't want to leave. Good time to go as well with all flowers and colour in the garden. We bought a package of postcard when we leave. Nice staff.

It's fascinating and well worth the visit and $20 The hill is very slight and easy for anyone. It's also not far up the slight incline. Do it. It's an international experience and a memory of Akaroa & NZ
