Fremantle Prison is one of Western Australia’s premier tourist attractions and the only World Heritage listed building in the State. The Prison was built by convicts in the 1850s and was used as a place of incarceration for almost 140 years. With solitary cells and gallows Fremantle Prison is a monument to a system of punishment that is uncomfortably recent. Fremantle Prison now holds the key to history, mystery and fun. Step inside and do time with experienced guides on a fascinating Prison Day Tour. Explore the labyrinth of tunnels 20m beneath the Prison by foot and by boat on a Tunnels Tour adventure. Feeling brave? Delve into the darker side of the Prison’s history on an eerie Torchlight Tour.

We did two tours and probably should have just stuck to the one as did feel a bit long but our second guide was fantastic. He genuinely enjoyed his job and kept us all entertained.

Today, I descended into the tunnels 20m below Fremantle Prison that were dug out by the convicts over 100 years ago. Now I'm not usually one to suffer a fear of heights or claustrophobia but prior to getting harnessed up and climbing down the ladders...More

At AUD 60, the tunnel tour is a must (if you're fit enough to do so, and of course not claustrophobic). The guide takes you 25 metres beneath, going down through a pair of ladders at a time. The tour is of course torch lit,...More

Our guide, Jane, provided insight and knowledge of the history of the prison and what life was like for prisoners. Definitely would not have wanted an enforced stay in this place! Plenty of warning was given for those who might not want to see the...More

A great snapshot of prison life. The tour of this world heritage listed property is well worthwhile and has great context when considering it was a working prison not that long ago. The authorities have done a fantastic job of preservation and it is interesting...More

If you ever want to experience inside an old prison, go on this tour. The guide, John, had a dry sense of humour which made for great story telling. Knowledgeable gentleman with a wicked mustache. The inside is amazing with it looking like to prisoners...More
