Review from January 2017....

Review from January 2017..... Whilst not being religious, many a Church, I find most beautiful - plus they're historic and tranquil..... I lived in Brielle, extensively (on and off), for circa 4 years.....I know many locals, who have lived here all their lives, and, yet, have never been up the Tower of the Church..... It IS a hell of a work-out, as the stairs are tight and narrow - so do be careful......once at the top, you have a view of the entire Vestingstad, and it's highly impressive..... The 'top' area, is sizable, and rectangular shaped.....in one direction, you can see the Markt, De Hoofdwacht, and 'onwards'.....passing the Albert Heijn, and the Bastian Hotel...... Another - a view in the direction of the road which leads to Hellevoetsluis..... Additionally, one can also see the outskirts of Europoort, and its incredible 'size and mass...' The Church itself is most pleasant.....the Gent who works here is incredibly pleasant.....the stain glass windows - ornate, and the organ is impressive.....(the Church organ, as well)..... I also came here, last year, for 'Brielle's Got Fashion' (an event, which happens annually), and I felt most out of place, as essentially I was the only man present..........but not a problem........as I told an elderly lady - 'my name is Jacobim Mugatu' (she believed me), whilst several 'not very ugly Brielle ladies' (chuckled a great deal, after understanding my pop Culture reference)..... My review of Dutch women and fashion? Nice and nice - exceptionally stylish, very trendy, and elegant, frankly - and their attire is superior to ours in the UK.....(useless fact - average height of a Dutch woman? 5 Feet 10.5 inches.....and, hence, I find it useful - at 5'11 in height, to don my 'high heels', and change into my 'alter ego', Michaela, if 'out and about.' It certainly impresses everyone, and was a 'must' when I dated a 6 feet 2 inches, 17 year old Brielle lady, back in 2011.....) I highly recommend visitors to Brielle, that they have that 'work-out', and enjoy the view....alternatively, the next best view, is from the 'secret' tower/look-out, up the cobbled stairs, in the Hotel De Zalm, which looks out, over the Markt.......

Such a beautiful old building, and it cost only 1 euro to climb to the top! The views from the top over Brielle and beyond are beautiful.

This church looks very old and beautiful. The floor is all decorated and there are 317 steps to the top of the tower. The view from there is breath-taking, you can see the whole town from above. It is very tiring walking up there and I got a bit dizzy on the way down but if you take your time, it is totally worth it. I found it amazing that everyone in Brielle seems to speak English, even the two ladies who were collecting the fee at the entrance of the church, where we were given a leaflet with information on the place. A lovely place to visit.

Local friends bring me to visit this little town Brielle with a Church half finished. Actually the church was supposed to have a larger footprint but due the the financial issue, the project was en halt, that's why you see the current church wall is finished with basic stone.

Historical church building from the 1400's. Interesting interior, including a huge pipe organ and even some tombs. The climb to the top of the tower is worth the effort for the views of surrounding South Holland and the Rotterdam Europort.

A cathedral worth visiting whilst in this charming little city in the South of Holland. Climbing the stairs all the way up in the tower is endless, but with a breathtaking view, if you have breath left...hahaha...

The St. Catharine Church is close to the other attraction in town, the Historic Museum. As many churches this one had a history of fires and other damages too.

Inside are some fine memorials and tombstones. One of the tombstones is over the grave of the only Sea Beggar (Watergeus), as they were called, who died with the battle and taking of the town from the Spaniards on the 1st of April 1572. A beautiful stained glass window depicts the actions on that day.

There is a nice church organ and a pulpit and the colours are sometimes beautiful.
When you have enough stamina you can climb the 320 steps in the tower to get to the top and have a good view over town and the surrounding area, weather permitting.

The church is a must see, together with the museum, when you want to have a complete impression of the history of Brielle and The Netherlands. The entrance fee is only € 1,- (August 2013)
