    High Tatra experience for lifetime
On a sunny day, this place is like a paradise. It is a peak of Slovakian engineering with some Swiss help. There are three stages on the path to the top. Firstly, from the town Tatranska Lomnica to intermediate stage Štart is a chair lift. Secondly, it is a cable car from Štart to Skalnate pleso (1,751 m) where it is amazing lake, embraced by amazing rocky Tatra mountains. At last, there is a special suspension cable car to the top of the peak Lomnicky štit (2,634 m) where there is capacity of maximum of 15 people on same time and as it takes a 8-9 minutes drive to the top, it can go only 3 times up and down in an hour, thus maximum 45 people can go up to the peak hourly and thus tickets to Lomnicky štit must be reserved (booked) earlier in advance on the Vysoke Tatry website through the Gopass system, also with a time of your ride Skalnate pleso-Lomnicky štit. On the top, it is 50 minutes time to have a look and after that it is a return ride. Anyway, it is totally worth it because all High Tatras can be seen from this peak and path on the top is well secured and easy to hike, even for people who are afraid of heights. So I highly recommend to do this Lomnicky štit experience if you are in Slovakia or High Tatra Mountains overall. On a sunny day, it is surely the experience for lifetime.

    Wonderful Experience. Would come again
Even though we were clouded out from the view, to see the surounding mountain peaks popping up through the cloud cover was gorgeous. The tarns are simply wonderful. It's a very fulfilling experience. Inside is a little cafe where you can grab a bite/drink before decending. Not something you'd do with little children because it's mostly just views. Though down by Štrbské pleso there is a neat playground. The children in my group (9 and 13) enjoyed it. We had an unlucky coincidence where the clouds moved out for a couple seconds just after we had taken the lift down.

NOTE: If you have vertigo do not do this.

We did this on a day where the peak was wrapped in clouds but it worked out. The cable car to get there takes a 20 minute round trip and you have 50 minutes at the peak. You MIGHT get longer, since my wife and I did because they didn’t have another group coming up at our time to go down.

Even on a day where the peak is wrapped in clouds it can still be worth it. There are breaks in the clouds every so often where you get the great views. It tends to be cold so make sure you wear appropriate clothing.

Glad I did it but certainly wouldn’t do it again. I didn’t realise I was afraid of heights until I did this. The first two stages are really enjoyable but the last stage us straight up in a very small cable car filled with 24 people. Once you get to the top the platform is not maintained very well with wooden planks that are loose. The bar area is quite smelly and when you are not doing well with the height it wasn’t good.

You should definitely pre-book the final leg of the cable car up the mountain as it's usually sold out on the day! We booked 1 week before, there are 3 sections to get to the top, the 1st 2 of quite big and run all day, the last and final leg is a smaller car and operates on a 1 load up and 1 load down situation.

There's amazing views from up there, our day was quite cloudy but it did clear from time to time, also a lovely little bar and cafe to get some drinks, worth checking out! "You can also climb the mountain but this is for experienced climbers only..

Even before we started our trip to Slovakia we had decided that we wanted to go to the summit of Lomnicky Stit. The photos of the views from up there that we saw on the internet were stunning. The cableway ride is quite expensive 45€/pp, so 90€ for the two of us (and more than a tad confusing to buy and activate). We bought the tickets a few days in advance, to avoid them being sold-out. We chose the day, and then the time to go up by watching carefully the weather prediction. It was all for naught. When we were riding up in the funicular the clouds were already congregating around the mountain, and when we got out to the lookout platform there was a gray wall of clouds not 10 m away. We couldn't even see more than 3 or 4 m down! We spent there the maximum time allowed, waiting for a small break in the clouds, but it never came.
We were so disappointed that the next day, on our way to the south Tatras, we decided to try again if the weather was good. And it was, all-blue skies all around, except for a couple of not-too-large clouds. However, while we were waiting in line to buy the tickets (another 90€) one of those clouds wrapped itself around the Stit and stayed there. We started to doubt but, anyway, when it was our turn the tickets for the day were sold out.
What I mean is that you have a trade-off between waiting to buy tickets until the conditions are good (and you can see the views) risking the tickets are sold out, and buying them in advance and risking wasting the money to see a cloud wall. I just used the lowest rating to make people aware of this.

You need to book the trip to the top of Lomnicky peak much in advance. Available hours are 9:30 – 15:00 only. The view from the top is outstanding. There is a restaurant and 2 hotel rooms.
Skiing there is a fun for not demanding or not good skiing persons. Profi ones will complain...

We had a fabulous time on the peak, snow in September and minus 6 degrees, we were oh so lucky though, the peak was covered in cloud until the car reached the summit and then it just cleared, the views are truly spectacular.

This was my partners first trip on a cable car, so the unsupported suspension cable car trip for the last 855 metres surprised her!
While you are up there do not miss the opportunity to have what is probably the best hot chocolate ever, and this from somebody who does not normally drink sweet drinks.
The restaurant at the mid station is also good value for a lunch time meal.
Worth every penny
