Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Contrary to what some people say, the trail is not technically demanding, as long as rocks are dry. On the other hand the peak is 1400 m above valleys and constant climbing is quite murderous. The view from the top is definitely a reward. I have been to a number of Tatra peaks and this one is probably the number 1. on my list. The summit ridge is 50 mts long, so depart very early if you want to avoid crowds. Otherwise you can risk frequent Tatra storms and reach the summit late in the afternoon, getting a chance to be alone face to face with mind boggling precipices and proud rocky spires. From the junction point "Razcestie pod Krivanom" you may take a solid rocks blue trail through Maly Krivan or a shortcut with loosy stones to Daxnerovo Sedlo.

Nice walk to the top, 1-1.5h both ways, not very challenging. Can be done also with smaller kids. Can also walk past it for other peaks. Great views. Should not have more than average fitness level. There is also a bistro, where you can get some food - nothing special thou. You can extend the stay there for longer time, as there are other peaks that you can go to also.
To go up - either you walk (quite some walk up) or take the ski lift.

Hike is very simple at the beginning, but the top part is very difficult. I do not recommend to go with small children or dogs.
It's not the most difficult hike, but prepare to sweat a lot. It is necessary to prepare for a day tour. I recommend to leave the car at parking lot "Tri Studnicky". From there it takes about 3.5 hours. Ideally go as soon as possible, because around lunch is usually filled with people. The view from above is beautiful and the feeling that you climb up is unspeakable. People who are afraid of height or have poor physical condition may have a problem climbing up.

The curve peak. The Slovak Mattenhorn. Maybe the easiest 2500m peak of the world. There are 2 path to go, but the elevation is 1300 m. It is a full day walk, but I have seen there a 80, or more year old man. And a younger - he celebrated his 50, ran up with a glass of sparkling wine, drunk it with friends and ran down :-D He was absolutely local. Don't reccomended for families with little children, only if father can pick them up and take. The panorama is awesome. You will find the place on Slovak 10 and 20cent coins.

You can start the hike at Strbske Pleso train station (on the south-west shore of the lake, behind Hotel Salisko) or from the parking “Tri Studnicky” (shorter but steeper). We opted for the second option and it was very physically demanding. It was 4 hours steep (always up) trail to the top, around 1000 m ascend. Half or more of the trail is not scenic as you hike through the forest with limited views which was a big drawback of this hike. Of course most of the hikes in High Tatras start in forests but this one was a bit too much. Last part of the trail is sort of scrambling but not too difficult. Views from the top are fantastic, but you need lots of efforts for it. If I had only one day to hike, I would choose Rysy instead of Krivan as that one is much more scenic and easier (especially from Slovak side).

If you're into climbing and you like a challenge, this is the peak for you. Taking approximately 4.5 hours to get to the top, be prepared for some steep inclines and scrambling near the top. If it's a clear day, the view is certainly more than impressive. Pack enough snacks as you'll need them to keep you going. A truly marvellous way to spend a day!

This climb is long and difficult but if you have a good weather the views are amazing. If the weather is not good ( rain of fog ) then its better to go somewhere else. Rocks can be slippery and there are no chains. I have seen a lot of kids up there but to be honest i don't think this is the best place to go with kids ( but of course this depends on their parents and their experiences ) There are 2 places where to start hike and they meet somewhere in the middle and then there is only one way. It can be quite busy in peak season. Enjoy!

Hiking trail(green) from Tri studničky is not that easy, but worth it. Feelings at the top are amazing. Maybe the blue trail from Jamské pleso would be easier. I think both can be done by average person with no hiking experience.

Kriváň Mt. (2,494 m ) a stout peak in the western part of the High Tatras.
To get on the top takes 3-4 hours, it is worth to see mountains around - autumn is the best choice for adventure
