I have never seen anything like this church, where most of the church is covered in sand! You can also enter the church if you're there.

Actually, the church is not buried but the bottom of the tower is. The church was regularly being inundated with sans and the villages gave up in the 18th Century and the nave was demolished in about 1795 after the church was closed. So all...More

It's not a long walk to see the church, which wasn't open to go in when we were there, but opens periodically apparently. Walk is pretty easy, some slight hills. There are other trails to follow and they look nice but we didn't bother walking...More

Not an easy walk if you have trouble walking on uneven ground but it's worth a walk (if you can manage) to see what's left of a church buried by migrating sand. It's the only 'attraction' there and unless you enjoy a walk in the...More

Okay for a short visit and the hike to the church. Enjoyed our picnic at the tables in the car park.

This is a fun walk to a fascinating historical church buried by a sand dune. From the edge of town it is about a 1/2 hr. walk. Only the steeple is visible, the main sanctuary was demolished once the villagers realized they could not save...More

This was a stop on a group tour. The path into the church from the parking lot was filled with puddles and was not always easy to walk. The church was buried in sand and part of the tower is still below grade. Behind the...More

On a short stay in Skagen - and together with 30 fellow passengers from our Cruise Ship the Azamara Journey - we visited the sand buried (or partially buried) Church which is a short (10 minute) drive from the main town. It also takes about...More

Amazing to see a church which was buried in sand and abandoned. Nice short hike out to church and fun to climb the stairs to nice views of area from the top. Great place for photos.

A church which has been buried in sand is not common! The tower still stands but the rest of the church is gone. If you go here, remember to go behind the tower where you will find markings from where the rest of the church...More
