River side Castle/Fortress
Sep 2019
The outside and view of the river is very nice. The actual castle to visit is via a one way system with each room opened and locked behind you. Some local artifacts, replica costumes, history of the area, and archeological displays. Parking was free and I seemed to be the only visitor. Worth a visit, especially in contrast to the Rundale Palace in the area.

Castle in a beautiful landscape
Aug 2020
The Bauska Castle, like many castles in the Baltic countries, was badly damaged in the course of time, especially during the Great Northern War, when the retreating Russian army blew it up. The castle was rebuilt from the ruins and is still in the process of restoration. Less attentive visitors wonder why the medieval castle is being rebuilt in a much later architectural style. In fact, the first part of the medieval castle (which is still in ruins) was built in the 15th century, but by the end of the 16th century the palace was added as a new wing, which is now completely renovated and which houses the palace museum. As of the summer of 2020, the restoration continues, so it will be difficult to get beautiful pics of the buildings without the scaffolding peeking from any corner. However, the landscape is magnificent, as the building is located on a limestone hill at the confluence of two rivers. It is worth taking a walk in the park and enjoying the nature and views of the palace. The museum itself is small, but there are some really interesting artifacts that can attract the attention of those interested in military history, and those interested in costume history, as there is an interesting exposition of Renaissance costumes. Unfortunately, the later exposition contains information only in Latvian. Wandering around the palace, climbing stairs in narrow corridors is also fun in itself, if the condition of your legs allows. A special word about the staff. They are friendly, if reserved and - a beautiful touch - dressed in Renaissance clothes. Though on hot days, I would feel sorry for them. Conclusion: really worth a visit. And the price is really not steep.

It was interesting to see renovation of castle. Everywhere you can smell a new wood floor.I loved exhibition of clothes. The narrow stairs up and down to the castle is fantastic. You just can imagine how hard was in the past to climb this high narrow stairs. on the right side od castle exihibition it was to clear, maybe in a future the hall will be with more exhibtion :)

Festival Site
Jun 2019
I visited a few months ago with my girlfriend for the Zobens un Lemess festival, so probably didn't get the full castle experience. That being said though, it's a pleasant ground with some nice natural scenery as well as historic views. It's particularly pleasant to watch the sunrise or sunset over the castle. If you are into folk, rock, or metal music, it is also well worth going to the annual festival at the start of June.

Pretty dissapointing
Jul 2019
I am a huge castle/palace person, so I'm a bit jaded, perhaps. Nonetheless, I think this castle is skippable. The interiors aren't that interesting. I also never got a good clear view of the castle like the one in the photo on this website. There was some construction work going on too, so maybe that made a difference. The bathroom door is really confusing to open, unless you understand old iron work mechanics. Better to just head to Runedale for the day.

Nice castle in Bauska
Jul 2019 • Couples
Beautiful castle on the river side in Bauska. A half of the castle is renovated and is ready for visitors. The entrance price is €4 at the moment until all castle will be renovated. The old part of the castle is nice to see too as it’s original castle remains! Inside the castle is museum and a small cafe. Museum could have more information in English and directions where is allowed to go. I think if staff would speak in English would be easier for tourists. All staff are dressed in old times clothes which makes you to feel the spirit of old times. The castle is nice to visit just once as here is not too much to see, but around the castle or in the castles yard is happening some events over the weekends. But definitely worth to visit!

Great little castle
May 2019 • Couples
Most people come to visit Rundale Palace, but if you are in the area, this castle is worth a visit too, it is much more peaceful in terms of visitors than the palace, unfortunately when I visited, the main tower was closed due to renovations, but still it was a nice experience.

old and new combo
Mar 2018 • Couples
Bauska Castle is a great example how to reconstruct a castle. There is a contrast between the old part and the new part of the castle. Definitely recommend!
