This church is a truly memorable Churcĺh, especially if you are a fan of gothic architecture and the medieval period. The church itself houses 18 altars of varying sizes. The main altar - the tallest gothic altar in the world is simply stunning, but I would definitely recommend bringing binoculars if you want to see details. There are also some... More

Right in the middle of the town, this is one of top attractions of Levoca, the other being the old town hall. Second biggest church in Slovakia, with impressive tower. Visiting in two stages. Stage one: opposite main entry to the church there's a new town hall, where you buy your tickets to see St. Jacob's church inside - photos... More

This was a nice shorty tour. It was only in Slovakian but you didn't really need to understand everything there was plenty of reading bit online and available.

This church is beautiful with its gothic altars. There are amazing paintings and sculptures all around. The young ticketseller and the guard are however upright rude, they make you feel as if they wanted u to leave asap. They chased us out after 30 minutes, even though there was only 1 small group besides us. They say the ticket is... More

The whole town is a harmonious patrimony. Enjoy the several monuments and be sure that you’ll not miss the magnificent gothic altar in the Saint James church. Enjoy as much as we did!

Outside it seems a normal ordinary church, but inside there are many master pieces such as the biggest altar in wood

Must see. Amazing. Every single visitor has to see the church. Highly recommended. Has to be a part of everybody's education.

This is a priceless work of religious architecture that must be seen. Since it is so important, certain limitations are in place to protect it. No pictures because if non-flash pictures are allowed, there will always be someone who either refuses to turn their flash off or does not know how. Visits are limited to 30 minutes, with a guide.... St. Jacob's/St. James' Church contains the highest Medieval altar ever made, carved in wood by Master Paul of Levoca. His work is scattered throughout Slovakia. Seeing teh altar is worth the trip. One doesn't need a guide to understand the church's sculptures. We had a personal Slovak guide but English-language explanatory sheets are available, so there must have been some... More
