A tour of this open air museum just outside of Riga was an "optional" tour for our group which means we had to pay extra to go. We did & was disappointed. I guess it's mainly because we were not informed prior that a lot...More

If the weather is good and you want to go where not all the tourists in Riga go, the open air museum is a great place to spend a few hours away from the city center of Riga. It is easy accessible by bus -...More

A historical open air museum that features buildings/dwellings/farms/church from Latvia's past. Interesting to tour the buildings and imagine whole multi-generation families sharing one house. Farm houses similar to the early American farm houses of the 1800's in the Midwest. Interesting if you like history.

Pleasantly surprised by the Latvian Ethnographic Open Air Museum which is located a short bus ride or tram and bus ride from Riga. Located in an expansive forest, this museum which is inexpensive to enter depicts housing and rural life from all four regions of...More

I visited the museum as an optional day trip during my tour of the Baltics. Having visited other Ethnographic Museums I thought I would see more staff in period dress and my travel material indicated I would see many old homes and cottages, actors dressed...More

Set in a huge forest about 7 miles from the city centre, the museum is a series of reconstructed wooden buildings from the 16th to 20th century. We took a taxi which was €12. The museum is €5 per person and you are given a...More

We caught the No1 bus from the centre of Riga and saw plenty of countryside on the way. The museum is on a vast site so be prepared to walk. We were disappointed that there were not many 'working' features. Not spoilt by commercialism.

This museum is a good place for long walks lovers. Make sure that you have enough time to explore the place as we were there just 2 hours before closing and did not have had the time to see the entire museum. If you are...More

This huge open air museum can give you a great example of what life was like a long time ago. Be careful in regards to 2 things: 1) Active churches are on site, so be quiet and careful when walking into the church, people might...More

Highly recommended place to visit in Rīga. Beautiful area near the Kisezers lake, great fresh air around, lots of walking around the museum area, impressive well done exhibition as well. Everything from the past (historical wooden buildings, furniture inside buildings, machines etc.)! Very nice and...More

No - but there is a cafe bar at the entrance who might help if you ask them. Alternatively you could leave them at Riga railway station as they assuredly do have left luggage.

It depends when you arrive! In summer it stays open till 20:00 but most of the buildings close at 17:00 - so between 17:00-20:00 admission is 1.5 euros but up until 17:00 it is 7 euros (with concessions for children... More
