Beautifully restored buildings (not to 'modern' condition, but in the condition they were when people lived in them 100's of years ago). The attendants tell you how they were used, for instance the large homes with a hearth in the middle had a fire going 24x7 in winter (as snow outside). Little lids slept on the hearth, as it was... We went there with 2 small kids. We really liked the place, I would say even better than we expected! Just we went there on early spring, so moody puddles was everywhere :-) defiantly we will come back in summer.

Lovely surroundings, easy to get to via the number one bus from Riga. But in late february, all the houses were shut and the there was no where on site to buy food or drink of any sort. Slushy snow and snow melt on most of the paths. However, the setting was very atmospheric and we spent about 2 hours... More

Tha place is great to have a walk, enjoy the fresh air, the nature, the latvian forest. Family come to hang out, couple to chill, or practice some sport : bicycle, roller blades, skate, running... Bring your lunch packed, and enjoy the birds songs!

We visited the Open Air Museum in mid-February and there was still snow and a real chill in the air. The day we visited it was sleeting but undeterred we got the #1 bus from central Riga for the 40-min trip out. Entrance to the museum was only €2 per person, perhaps as it was off season, which was well... More

Very interesting visit. It was very cold with frozen snow on ground and Lake Jugla frozen.Centuries old wooden houses with original working implements showing amazing innovation of how they lived and worked. Absolutely loved it. Wonderful walk through pine forest away from Riga.

An open air museum, that will take you about one day to walk around and enjoy the scenery/buildings and atmosphere of a historical/traditional Latvian country life. I suggest you go there in the first part of the day, about 10 a.m. Some houses are closed up, and some houses are open and are decorated with historically accurate stuff. Some houses... More

Visited annual traditional fair and had a chance to explore museum's territory. Be prepared for long walk and unpredictable discovers! Juglas lake gives romantic atmosphere and feeling of never-ending story about traditional Latvian life. Museum just melt into water of lake. Fair was huge - full of different tastes, music and crafts. If decide to go, choose first weekend of... More
