symbol of resistance

Badly damaged by the bombings, the church tower was rebuilt. The church interior is very much original and the main facade is so impressive with its 3 identical portals.

You must pay
Jan 2020 • Solo
This church in the heart of the city is a really lovely addition to the rest of Tiga's beautiful buildings. The tower offers beautiful view of the city, however it comes with a cost to go to the tower . Best time to visit is morning when there is less crowds
Another one not to miss when visiting.

Pricey to visit - tower worthwhile, rest of the church you can skip
Jan 2020
Visited the tower for views over Riga Old Town and whilst the admission price was overpriced, the views from the top are very good on a clear day. If you don't want to do the tower, you still have to pay to enter the church. There is some art on display on a walk around the inner walls, and you can view the centre of the church. Overall, expensive for what you get, so an attraction you can either experience or miss, either way.

Not a good feeling to pay to see a church
Feb 2020
We are two women who just wanted to see the church room not go up in the tower. We were quite dismayed to find out we had to pay to go inside the church. We looked from the back, through the glass windows. It looked just like any other big brick Lutheran church of which we have several in our own country, so we skipped it and left.

Amazing view
Jan 2020 • Friends
We went to the top of the tower and even in the pouring rain the view was amazing! It’s a shame that they charge €9 per person as that’s quite expensive, especially if you have a whole family to pay for. The view itself if worth 5 stars though.

The view is a must
Jan 2020
The church is nice enough, but the thing to go for is the view. Ticket costs 9 euro, thus it is the more pricey of Riga's attractions, especially churches, which are typically free, but it's worth it.

The best view in town
Jan 2020
We went up to the tower which cost around 7 euros per student. The guidance was clear. There was an elevator that got us up to the tower. The view was the most beautiful in town.

Highly interesting visit
Dec 2019
This is a must do visit in Riga. The church is beautiful and has many items worth seeing. The atmosphere is quiet and respectful despite huge numbers of visitors. The staff are helpful and courteous.

HORRIBLE STAFF
Dec 2019 • Family
This year we decided to spend Christmas with my husband and 3 daughters, age 14,12 and 9 in Riga.
Sadly, following a lousy experience at St. John’s church, we had our second negative experience in Riga during our 3rd day in Latvia.
The lady at the tickets was quite polite, however, the staff in the elevator going up and down were terrible, bad-mannered and unbelievably rude. Here we were, paying €30 just to have a look at the view from the top of the church, we were crammed in an elevator and the woman sitting down on her chair, was unsmiling and pissed off and even asked us to shut up while we were merely talking to one another, we weren’t shouting, screaming, laughing, whistling, singing, partying or anything. We were in a elevator like sardines in a can, communicating with our family in our own language and she asked us to shut up. How unbelievable is that??
And right when I started thinking that these people might be the exception to the rule, when we were trying to get out of the church and the eye on the automatic doors didn’t seem to work, another old, blonde woman, started talking to me and my 14-year-old daughter in Latvian, in an irritated manner. She kept talking in Latvian although I told her we didn’t understand a word of what she was talking. She was basically verbally abusive. God, again, that was so surreal!!
I think that in the event the management is reading these messages, they should definitely get rid of the “remnants” of the Soviet Union and hire more hospitality driven employees.
