About
Visit the Fashion Museum in the heart of Riga! With interactive, hands-on exhibits for children and adults, the Museum showcases clothing styles over the centuries. The exhibitions are made possible thanks to the generous contribution of the Alexandre Vassiliev Foundation, one of the top three largest private fashion collections holders in the world. The current exhibition is dedicated to the fashion of 1930s. Hollywood divas Greta Garbo and Marlene Dietrich, renowned couturiers Lucien Lelong, Maggy Rouff, and Elsa Schiaparelli, sport and permanent wave, Art Deco design and the femme fatale image, Great Depression and premonitions of war – those years were glamorous and full of contradictions. Unique and elegant dresses out of the collection of Alexandre Vassiliev, as well as an array of fashion accessories, will provide a full cultural immersion into the era, known as the “pre-war chic”.

Amazing collection shown mainly in chronological order. Very complete as it also shows the antique and vintage accessories to go with the time period. Very busy and mainly women, but of all ages from little girls to seniors all enjoying this fabulous collection put together by one man. He worked in Hollywood and the film industry, but he had a great eye for all the ways that fashion is represented in attire and accessories!

This is a hidden gem. The dresses from year 1860 were so beautiful and charming. The cafeteria upstairs had good service and when I drank my glass of sparkling wine, I felt like going back in time. I recommend this Museum.

It was an interesting place to visit. We saw the exhibition with 19-century dresses and accessories. Also, there was a chance to wear some old-style clothes and take photos. We loved that we were the only ones at that time.

My wife were very pleased to see this museum. Within all many beautiful dresses we were very pleased and proud to see the wonderful dresses of HÜLYA AFŞAR and ÇOLPAN İLHAN in this museum. Presentations and effects were very professionally prepared. Good to see place. Also have a up of French press coffee afterward in the museum caffe.

The exhibition I went to (turn of the century gowns) was fabulous. Someone took a lot of time to set it up. I knew it was temporary, but had assumed that there would also be a permanent exhibition section, like many museums, and there was not.

But it was great anyway. More than worth the price of admission to see those gowns up close and personal. They had some art deco type evening coats and hats that you can wear for a photo opportunity. There was some information on perfumes of the day and a short history of major fashion houses of the time.

It was at least as good (and easier on the feet) than staring at Greek statues and European master paintings at the Art Museum.

You can visit this musem if you do not have anything better to do or if there is a rainy day. However, the visit will not be too long as the space is quite small.

Honestly, I was expecting more, probably because I was comparing it to museum of applied arts in Vilnius, Lithuania, which had a huge exposition. This one is located downstairs in a building, so the space is quite small and exhibition is not that huge. They played well by doing the show with the music, lights and outfits lightened accordingly to music. They also have some old photographs slides showing the fashion in time period. Overall I was pleased to visit this place, really nice to fill in time or visit on a rainy day.

I tell you this is a must on a rainy day in Riga and must be one of our pearls in Riga. Actually easy to find just inside of old town Riga. You have to climb downstairs but then, if you happen to be a "gourmet" in fashion like us, this is the place to be today. It's small but the exibition is very nicely done. Many epoques in fashion with aditional music. We had a very nice time here. Upstairs you will find a beautifull cafe with good cakes and drinks to affordable prices. A pearly choice on a rainy day in Riga.
