About
Ice Age Centre is an exciting theme park meant for the whole family! We offer the joy of discovery for visitors of all ages! We are a unique visiting centre in the Baltic States – you will see life-sized prehistoric animals and experience how the world and Estonian nature has developed through the ages. Is mammoth just a hairy elephant? When did humans inhabit Estonia? How will the coastline change in time? Is the climate getting warmer or actually colder? From us you will get to know how the Universe was formed and what lies ahead in the future! Ice Age Centre exhibition offers an overview of the origins of ice ages and their effect on the Earth, Estonia and Vooremaa, introduces the development of Estonian nature and human settlement after the last ice age and the causes of and research on climate change. We are located in the heart of Vooremaa, next to beautiful lake Saadjärv – an area known for the ice age and Estonian Kalevipoeg legends.

It was better than expected. My kids were there few years ago and were not excited. So, I had low expectations. In reality this small paleontology museum was very interesting and eye widening about the development of Estonian region many thousands year ago. I liked the second floor more than 1st.

Small museum related to paleontology and archeology in the vicinity of Tartu, so if you want to get there car would be very handy, suppose you can get there by bike, and maybe public transport but not completely sure. Museum exhibition is fully indoors so it is good place to visit in case if weather is not so good. In case of the good weather you may have a bonus of walk around by the nearby lake. Exhibition not overly abundant but very well arranged and maintained, with it fare share interactive experiences, like northern lights room, or stone throwing game related to Estonian mythology. Static exhibitions also on par.
Price is fully justified, and as an additional bonus and reason to go there, on the first visit you get a flier with 20% discount for visiting AHHAA, not sure if it applies to family tickets only, also this works vice-a-versa as well and more museums attractions are participating in that scheme, but if you on budget is better start with those which are cheaper, and use discount for more expensive ones.

Ice Age Centre is a theme park to visit with kids, it allows to tell the history in easy-to-understand manner. Mammoth is really big and looks alive. Reasonable ricing for such an interesting museum .

Our family visited Ice Age Centre in Tartu with 4 year toddler. At the entry we've been worned that on 12:00 all lights will be off, they will give us flashlights and something interesting shall happen. As a result flashlights were too few and we were in the dark centre with estonian speaking guide telling something to other visitors for 40 minutes!!! I think that we could spend 40 minutes of our life in a much more interesting way.

Nice place to see how things shaped our earth and see some animals lived and living right now.
Maybe target audience is a bit older than our 3 and 5 year-olds. They had fun to look around all animal taxidermy but had no interest to learn more by reading all interesting information written in descriptions.

Not sure which audience the Ice Age Centre is aimed at. The text panels are very wordy and technical so are clearly not designed for children and families. Good display using natural history specimens illustrating climate change but overall a bit of a miss for me.
