About
Toomemägi or Toome Hill was a gift from Emperor Paul I to the University of Tartu – having previously been used by townsfolk to graze cattle. For hundreds of years it had been the centre point of the local population, later becoming the site of a castle which made it the heart of medieval Tartu. In the early decades of the 19th century it was turned into a park on the initiative of the university's plantation committee, with alleys of trees, paved roads and bridged gulleys. Along with the library, anatomicum, observatory and clinic it formed the intellectual focal point of Tartu.

Disappointing
Nov 2019
Probably worth visiting in summer but rather disappointing in November when the trees have shed most of their leaves and they now litter the ground and there were no flowers at all. A good place to walk a dog maybe?

Enjoy the environment.

This is an automatic "included" if you visit the former cathedral/library, now the university museum. Well set-up and maintained place, nice to walk. The only "but", apart from the rain, are the cobblestones - so ladies, wear flat shoes and all, wear comfortable shoes.

Very nice walk

A very nice place to walk, especially in a beautiful autumn day. There are many interesting monuments and buildings and also views over the city.

Excellent, refreshing and interesting walk with some views over Tartu
Oct 2018 • Friends
We stopped in Tartu on a Sunday morning, walked through the old town square (with the Kissing Students fountain), and then on up Toomemagi. We had a very pleasant 45 minute or so walk in the wooded area, coming across plenty of points of interest - from the observatory, to the Angel bridge, to statues of notable figures, and the old cathedral (immense!). Well worth doing.

A nice waste of time

When you climb the road up under the bridges you enter the park . Lots of different walks but mostly all the same . Great place to walk the dog , rather then wonder at its beauty . Lots of trees , more a natural beauty then a gardeners delight . Take a padlock for the kissing hill . The cafe the rounde ( I think it was called) provided good value food and is quite busy with interesting intellectual students .

Toome Hill is a beautiful place to visit. It is especially nice to walk there. There is also an excellent view from the hill. There is also impressing old buildings and nice tennis court in the area,

Pleasant stroll around the high point over Tartu
Mar 2018 • Couples
Spent about 45 minutes doing the circuit which not only had good views over the entire city scape of Tartu, but has regular story boards of the main buildings and monuments that are within the bounds of Toome.
The cahedral, which is partly rebuilt, contains the University of Tartu museum although both the staircase to the top of the renovated cathedral core and Universary museum close quite early in winter and early spring months

Not that much to see
Sep 2017 • Solo
Idea of this place was more interesting than the place actually was. There was not that much to see.

An interesting hillside walking among the trees
Aug 2016
We always like to get some exercise each day. Walking up the hill, and looking at the statues and remains of a massive cathedral were a nice way to get out and walk.

Nice place to walk
Jun 2017 • Friends
It is a small hill where you can simply take a walk. It is great in a hot day, because there are many trees so park is in shadows. There are some small caffees, benches to sit. For extra price you can visit observatory and some museums ( we didn't go in any).
