About
TYPA is a design centre for print and paper art where we display a host of historic presses and traditional techniques from papermaking to letterpress book printing. Old machinery is complemented by contemporary architectural paper objects and folded designs. Artists from all around the world work in the studio and display their works in the on-site gallery. As a visitor, you will be given a tour around the centre, during which you will be able to experience work both as a papermaker and a printer. We will take you 2000 years back in history and work our way back into the modern digital world. The tour is included in the price of the ticket, lasts for about 1-1,5 h and is suitable for kids as well as adults. In addition to the tour, we can host various workshops. Ask your tour guide for more information. In our shop corner, you can find a selection of journals and notebooks that we manufacture by hand and we also take custom orders for diaries and albums, as well as custom prints.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We received a very interesting guided tour around the museum. We could make paper and print postcards. The guide was friendly and nice, spoke Estonian and English, so our communication was perfect.

My wife and I stopped here without a reservation and were able to take a guided tour with an English speaking guide. The tour was very good and gave us a good understanding of the paper making process as well as the history of printing. The tour took about an hour and the guide was excellent.

Parking was a little confusing. We were able to park in front of the place without any problem,

A journey through the history of Letterpress printing, small groups to single tours, very special experience, definitely a recommendation. Takes around 20 min by feet from the city center

Tartu kõige ägedam muuseum! Väga toredad inimesed, kes oskavad vastata küsimustele ja jagavad põnevaid fakte.

The fiercest museum in Tartu! Very nice people who can answer all your questions and share exciting facts.

I had a great experience in this museum. I learned fun facts about the invention of paper. I even did my own paper out of recycled paper ! It was very inspiring. The place is also super chill. Special appreciation for the store with the cutest notebooks. ✨

Lovely staff, very interesting tour with hands on experiences. Great for kids and also adults as there is an technical as well as an art section. It's a museum that also hosts artists and students that come to volunteer so the vibe is very lively. You can also buy some notebooks made with love.
