About
Unveiled on Kuuni Street in Tartu on Child Protection Day on 1 June 2004, this bronze sculpture by Ulo Oun (1944-1988) is said by his widow Inara Oun to portray the sculptor himself with a child taking after their son Kristjan at the age of 18 months. The sculpture was created in 1977 before being cast in bronze in 1987. It was originally designed to be erected in Tallinn, but Tartu City Government bought the sculpture in autumn 2001.

Father and son is one of the most well-known sculptures in Tartu, is compares the proportions of an adult and a child and allows us to understand how amazing human body is.

Tartu is really aware of the process of aging and this monument proves it. The father and the son are the same height but of different age. Slightly surprising to see naked people in the middle of the street though.

An unusual piece that certainly leaves you thinking or saying something. What exactly that is....well....that's for you to decide.

I came across this sculpture on a business trip in 2015, my only question is why is the child so big in comparison to it's father. Is it because they grow and we shrink with age? I don't know but it did get me thinking for a bit!

It's one of those love or hate things and I'm leaning towards the latter. Hate is too strong a sentiment, but... I just don't get it. And usually, I like weird..

This sculpture is one of those love-or-hate things. No one seems to be indifferent after having seen it. It is weird and I like it.

Located in a park, this unusual sculpture by Ulo Oun portrays himself and his 18 month old son, but of equal height. Different people have given it different meanings, but one is that it represents the changing periods in the father son-relationship through life.
One of several statues worth exploring in the centre.

Very interesting statue. I am not an art expert, but it made me to stop and to think about it for several minutes. True art!

The sculpture itself is a little odd. But my daughter loved it at the age of around 5 years old :) I believe it might entertain many other kids as well.
