About
The sculpture was created by Mati Karmin and unveiled in front of the Tartu Market on 17 January 2008. The steel barrel rests on a granite base and the numbers and letters cut into the base inform the viewer that the date when the sculpture was opened, 17 January, is St Anthony’s Day when old Estonians used to turn their attention to the pig.

Statue of pig is one of most famous sculptures in Tartu. It's standing outside of market place, check also into that! Outside it was iron worker selling his projects on Easter Sat.
Big nice park and 3 malls near by.

Huge sculpture pig in front of the covered market. Guess the pig escaped from the butcher! Very fun!

Spotted this pig on its plinth outside the market. Why here - don’t know, but it is nevertheless fun. Nothing clever.... it is just a pig!

The bronze pig by Marti Karmin (2008) stands guard at the entrance to the Market Hall which itself is well worth a visit. Recently refurbished, it is cool, airy and spacious selling all sort of interesting local food and drink.

It's a pig. It's a big pig. It is actually kind of cool but when we tried milking it we were unsuccessful.

The statue of the pig outside the meat market is only one of at least a dozen dotted around the city centre and a gentle stroll to see all of them is worth the effort. A drop into the market is also a must.As well as stalls festooned with food, there's a nice wee cafe where you can sit with a snack and watch the world go by.

Directly outside the indoor market is a giant metal pig on a plinth. It is eye catching and photogenic. I presume it relates to the content of the market hall.

This statue of a pig is to remind people that a meat market is here, and that it is mostly meat, but, you can also buy fish, and other good products too,as there are many stalls, both inside and outside too,in all weathers,as it's used a lot by the people of Tartu, and it's close to the river too.
And also has some cafes, and takeaways too.

A big bronze pig with lines to show how to cut the pig, have the best meat from it. Is located nearby the open market, not far from the AHHAA center.
