About
The sculpture was created by Mati Karmin and unveiled in front of the Tartu Market on 17 January 2008. The steel barrel rests on a granite base and the numbers and letters cut into the base inform the viewer that the date when the sculpture was opened, 17 January, is St Anthony’s Day when old Estonians used to turn their attention to the pig.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Statue of pig is one of most famous sculptures in Tartu. It's standing outside of market place, check also into that! Outside it was iron worker selling his projects on Easter Sat.
Big nice park and 3 malls near by.

Outside the main entrance, unveiled in January 2008 to mark the 70th anniversary of the Market Hall, is the statue Pig, standing on the tub that it will lie in after slaughter. On one side of the tub is a tablet that shows the cuts of pork meat and on the other is a poem by Indrek Hirve (b.1956). The poem reads:
Stop, my friend, behold your brother
See how he does not fuss or bother
Humans think they know better too
More often, they just play the fool
Behind backs, it’s ducks and swerves,
Sell out, suck blood, chew your nerves
these bad thoughts, they need a re-jig!
Pig’s more honest – he’s always pig.
Stop, my friend, behold your brother
See how he does not fuss or bother
Humans think they know better too
More often, they just play the fool
Behind backs, it’s ducks and swerves,
Sell out, suck blood, chew your nerves
these bad thoughts, they need a re-jig!
Pig’s more honest – he’s always pig.

The statue of the pig outside the meat market is only one of at least a dozen dotted around the city centre and a gentle stroll to see all of them is worth the effort. A drop into the market is also a must.As well as stalls festooned with food, there's a nice wee cafe where you can sit with a snack and watch the world go by.

I know that this pig might be the landmark of Tartu, however I still fail to realise the importance. Not the most interesting thing in Tartu.

One comes across this item when looking for the market or bus terminal and a special trip would be a waste of time. Apart from size it has no artistic attraction.

It was difficult to locate it,as trip advisor map shows it in the wrong place. To find it just look for indoor market (there will be signs in the city) and it will be in front of it.

It's not something to be but on a "must see" list, but it's a curious piece to encounter when you walk around. It's just a pig statue. You can take pictures with it. That's pretty much it.

We searched for it for a long time. But when we finally saw it it was great. Blew my mind, made me reconsider everything, I'm now a vegan. Love it

Located near the river and easily accessible while taking a walk near the old city. It is quite big.

Very educative in case you do not know the parts of a pig, all parts are named on this statue. Easy to check-up before going to the meat market shopping just behind the pig.
