About
The Kissing Students' sculpture and fountain is one of the most recognised symbols of Tartu. A fountain has stood in the same place since 1948, when newlyweds and their guests would visit it for luck, and people would also take a dip in it. The sculpture was created by Mati Karmin and completed in 1998. Since 2006 the fountain has been surrounded by tiles bearing the names of Tartu's sister cities: Bærum, Deventer, Ferrara, Fredriksberg, Hafnarfjorður, Hameenlinna, Kaunas, Luneburg, Pihkva, Riia, Salisbury, Tampere, Turu, Uppsala, Veszprem and Zutphen. They are situated in the direction that the cities lie from Tartu, marking the distances.

This statue is a place where you can feel romantic mood in the air. Kissing students get dressed in winter - scarves and warm hats.

Fun statue of a young couple in this University town. Right in the middle of the pedestrian district, it is a quick stop as you stroll through the town.

This iconic statue epitomises Tartu the main university town of Estonia. When we were in Tartu we saw a large number of students wherever we went and the kissing couple under the fountain makes a good photo stop

i liked this statue and why they built it but i wish our tour guide would of put more emotion in to it when telling the story as it would of made it a bit more romantic. it is in front of the town hall and there are lots of great photos to take here. lots of people were kissing like the statues and it was nice to see people having fun.

If in Tartu, this is a MUST for a photograph, especially for romantic couples. Set in the square with the historic university only yards away and stacks of restaurants all around.

Lovely cultural city to stroll around. Enjoy the leaning house of Tartu, the kissing student fountain, the Tartu meridian, Angels and Devils bridges and clean and car free streets in the old town where cafes, bars and restaurants abound. European City if Culture in 2024.

Beautiful and cute sculpture of students kissing. The water effect over the umbrella is very ingenious and makes for a great scene. Worth spending a few moments to admire.

In the old square there is a delightful fountain with the statues in its centre two passionate students in a close embrace.
