Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The neoclassical main building is a prominent landmark in Tartu, which is known as the intellectual capital of Estonia.

The university itself dates back to 1632 and is now located across the city. The main museum is located in the park, but the main building has a small museum with plaster casts of classical statues, paintings of the university and a few Egyptian artefacts while along the corridor are prints by Durer and other artists.

When a guide is available, you can apparently visit the student cells at the top of the building.

As one side of the main building there is a photographic project with members of the academic community looking out onto the street.

The Tartu University is very old formed by Swedish King Gustavus Adolphus. Situated very close to the city there are some lovely old buildings with lots of parkland.

This was even nicer than the museum. Excellent guide as well. Take your time to watch and listen and inhale the atmosphere from the past.

One can easily see why this early 19th Century building is known as the symbol of Tartu with its 6 Toscana pillars and triangular portico and is typical of much of the architecture not only in Tartu but in Estonia as a whole. Cameras at the ready. The University cafe is next door.

The buildings are beautiful, staff are friendly and it is excellently located. The cloak room is fantastic for arriving out from the cold. Very good conference venue.

The campus is beautiful and so are the surroundings. We were with a tour group and the walking tour was very nice and we learned a lot. We enjoyed the sculptures, the paintings on the buildings, the gardens and large trees, and the flowers apart from the university itself.

Guided through the various schools in the university by a local who actually attended the school twenty years ago was a unique experience. The student square with its outdoor seating and no autos allowed made for a pleasant afternoon.

When I visited, the only way to visit the main university building was to take the organized tour, which was offered hourly in English. Tour took about 30 minutes and included an historical lecture hall (where students carved their names in desks to reserve their seats), a small concert/event hall, and (most interesting of all) a restored "cell" in the attic where students found guilty of various infractions (including insulting ladies, dueling, etc) served sentences from a couple of days to over a month.

I always visit the surroundings of the Universitas Tartuensis main building when in Tartu. It is beautiful itself, and also they have made up all the houses around it.
