Eat your heart out Pisa!
Nov 2019
This is not only a leaning house but one of Estonia’s largest art museums. Unfortunately our time in Tartu was limited so we did not enter the museum but the building itself is a sight worth seeing.

Exhibit on local art more interesting than I expected
Jun 2019 • Business
The Estonian cultural renaissance between the wars included a circle of starving artists in Tartu. Some of their preserved work was clever. Some was just their homework from art classes.

Great to learn about Estonian art

Great museum, architectural pearl (Tartu own Pisa tower), nice collection of Estonian art.

When you are done, don't miss the small shop on the first floor!

Loved the Pallas exhibition!
Jul 2019 • Couples
The Pallas exhibition was really interesting and enjoyable! There were plenty of famous but also many less known art works. Lovely experience and would like to go back in the future. Definitely would recommend!

Great local art museum offering variety of exhibitions!
Jul 2019 • Couples
Have been there for couple of times when visiting Tartu and I enjoyed it a lot. It's rather small museum but the variety of exposure was impressive. They are swapping the exhibitions quite often (maybe after every 2 months or so). This museum is combines both classic and modern art from Estonian and international artists. It's a great place to pay a visit while visiting city center.

Small but Enjoyable
Jan 2019
I probably spent 30-40 minutes here. Some of the contemporary works are a little over the top (IMO) but overall I enjoyed it. The exhibit of women’s paintings on the third floor was particularly good and well done.

We have been there several times. Mostly we left with positive emotions, as we know Estonian art pretty well. Just have a look, what is going on.

The Leaning House of Tartu
Feb 2018 • Couples
Tartu Art Museum is the largest art museum in South Estonia. It was established in 1940 to collect, store and display modern art.

The Museum is situated in the Leaning House at Town Hall Square. The 3-storied building was built in 1793. Due to the decreasing level of groundwater, one side of the building has sunk over hundreds of years. In the 1980s extensive restorations were made and the sinking has stopped. However, the tilt angle is 5,8 degrees, which is more than in the Pisa Tower.

The modern art was again beyond our understanding but on the 3rd floor was an exhibition of the first Estonian female artist Julie Hagen-Schwarz and that was quite interesting.
