About
When you walk to Toomemägi (Toome Hill) in Tartu, you will certainly notice the Inglisild, which was built in 1838 based on the design by architect J. W. Krause. There is a bar relief of G. Fr. Parrot, the first rector of the University of Tartu which was reopened in 1802, with the writing 'Otium reficit vires' (rest restores strength) on the bridge. Interesting facts: the name of the bridge probably comes from the name 'English bridge' as the park was established in the English style. Several legends are associated with the bridge. For example, it is said that when you hold your breath while running over the bridge, your wish will come true.

lovely bridge to walk over and legend goes you must go over the bridge holding your breath and your wish will come true. so that was fun trying to do that. lots of uni students all dressed up getting photos before they go back to school. nothing too special about the bridge but the legend is good and its fun

From the angel's bridge to the devil's bridge
Jul 2019 • Friends
of course we had to do the test from the legend to see if it was possible to walk/run to the devil's bridge without breathing. We had a lot of laughs because it is not easy, but some of our group were able to do it.

Nice bridge. Nothing special.

This is the angel's bridge and 200m further lies the devil's bridge. Why those names? A mark with some explanation at both sides of the bridges might have been useful. Apart from that just nice, with a preference for the angel's bridge.

No more construction
Aug 2018 • Friends
We were there earlier this month and there was no construction as previously mentioned. I'm still waiting for my wish to come true, but it's a fun experience.

make a wish
Jul 2018 • Couples
Tartu has an angel's bridge and a devil's bridge. Legend says that if you hold your breath from stepping onto the bridge and do not breath again before exiting the angel's bridge on the other side, your wish will come true. Remember to take a deep breath and do not walk too slowly or you will not be able to hold your breath. Just a legend but our group enjoyed this challenge and had a lot of laughs.

The price one must pay
Jul 2018 • Solo
Estonia is going through a period of considerable socio-economic growth & with that comes gentrification and construction. There was construction all around this bridge when I was there in July but otherwise I would say it's something worth checking out especially because it's so close to the main square, university & information center (just up the hill). Fittingly, there is a devil's bridge in town as well.

Nice walk to the university

If you're coming by train, you walk right under this bridge on your way into town. Cobbled street. Historical interest. Its friend, devil’s bridge is near. Hold your breath, make a wish and cross over.

Interesting landmark
Oct 2017 • Solo
Very interesting landmark of Tartu on Toome Hill. This 19th century bridge conect two parts of park. View from the top is really nice. This bridge has its twin... nearby Devil's bridge.
