Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a gorgeous ancient wall, surrounding the old city of Tallinn.
It features numerous towers, which provide fantastic photo-ops.

During our visit to Tallinn we had a walk around the city walls as well as the old town.

Some lovely meandering paths around this part of the city and some great photo opportunities.

We decided to go on the city wall at Linnamüür. Cost 3 euros per person cash only.
First experience was the worst attitude we have seen in a long time. We were asked for coins, but having just arrived we did not have 6 euros in coins for the 2 of us. Gave a 10 euro note....4 euros change was a 2 euro coin plus small change - 36 coins in total! Member of staff had a second 2 euro coin but would not release this even when asked.
Views from the wall were OK, but better ones are available from free viewing points.
Inside of 2 towers was accessed by very steep stairs, OK, but nothing special. Views from the towers were all through plastic windows and again not remarkable.

The oldest parts of the of the wall date from the 13th century. Ultimately it became one of the strongest defences in Europe. Much of it is still there today. We visited Long Leg Gate (Pika Jala Varavatorn), Fat Margaret (Paks Margareeta), Hellman Tower (Hellemani Forn), Viru Gate (Viru Varav) and Kiek in de Kok. They are not all uniform in shape, although many are similar. You can walk along part of the wall near the Hellman Tower. So much history all around and very interesting indeed.

These are largely very well preserved and great to look at (and more, if you want). You will find many parts as you wander around Tallinn. Great!

We had walked from our cruise ship and were pleasantly surprised at the intact walls and towers of Tallin. It was a lot more medieval looking than I expected

These city walls are great. The towers probably make these the best I’ve seen. Right up there with York in the UK. You can see them at numerous points in the city and many allow you to walk up on them.

The people... the food... the views... the history!
In order: very friendly, delicious, spectacular, and woefully under-taught in US public schools.

At this age (>70) I want to see as much of the world as I can... and I can only hope that someday I can revisit Tallinn. This was truly one of the highlights of a 9-week Interrail trip!

When we entered old town, we walked the west wall Labooratorium Street. This area had few people along it, stunning views of walls and towers.

There’s a section here where you are allowed access for 3€ where you can climb spiral staircases to get into some towers and walk the walls.

Great photos and experience doing the walls and towers here! Only saw three other persons doing this, one of the highlights of our day in here.

Although there is only about 100 metres of wall and 3 towers open to visit, it is still fascinating to imagine how these must have been used in days gone by.
