About
The 'Russalka' monument is a memorial in classic style to those who lost their lives on the Russian navy vessel of the same name. It is situated just opposite Kadriorg Park in Tallinn. The sculpture, created by Amandus Adamson in 1902, was placed by the sea where the promenade from Kadriorg Palace comes down to meet the Bay of Tallinn. The monument depicts an angel pointing an Orthodox cross in the direction of the sunken ship. Did you know...? *During the Soviet era the Orthodox cross was removed from the statue, which simply indicated the direction of the Russalka with its now empty hand

Okay

Just wondered past, good place to remember the lives lost, not necessarily a place that needs it's own visit. Has some nice benches nearby that look out to the port and the strait of Finland

A tribute
Dec 2019
Monument built in tribute to those who were lost at sea. We stumbled across it as we were taking a stroll along the promenade. Very impressive although possibly not worth a specific trip to it.

Just a monument
Aug 2019
It's a monument next to the sea and in between old town Tallinn and Pirita. If you have plenty of time, ok to scroll through, but no need. Take a peek if you are passing by should be enough.

Great location
Sep 2019
As a monument, it is in the formal style that is considered appropriate for such memorials all over the world. When we were there there were extensive roadworks and landscaping taking place all around it, which will look wonderful when completed, but which currently make the entire site appear disorganised. Approaching the memorial from Kadriorg park, it is worthwhile making a detour to explore a delightful Japanese garden (signposted).

Simple Tribute

Facing the beautiful Baltic Sea, Ryussalka is a tribute to the people who lost their lives at sea. Nothing much to see except this, but go a short distance away and walk along the seashore for beautiful panaromic views of the Baltic and the Tallinn Old Town. Yes, romantic even - sunset - don'[t forget your camera!

Superb landmark monument on the edge of Kadriorg Park
May 2019 • Couples
This is an impressive monument and a commemoration to those that died at sea, when the Russalka ship sank. The monument makes for a great photo opportunity. At present it is difficult to reach, given all the construction works taking place in the immediate vicinity.
However,I am glad we visited it after Kadriorg Palace and Kadriorg Park. After the monument we spent a few quiet moments on the nice, sandy beach.
All in all,a fantastic day out.

Nothing, but a mediocre statue
May 2019 • Friends
Maybe because the area was undergoing refurbishment works, it was quite unpleasant visiting. Further Rialka is just a statie amidst a heavy boulevard and can't impress.

Nice statue by the sea
Jan 2019 • Couples
Nice commemoration statue by the sea, but there were road works all around when we visited. You can still get close to the statue (for free) and get a nice picture, but it's a little "off" from the city center and I probably wouldn't go here just for the statue. Nice to pass by if you're visiting Kadriorg palace or garden though.

Lady with wings statue by the sea
Dec 2018 • Couples
Statue is dedicated to a Russian war ship that sunk 1893 in a storm and memorial was built 1902. Ship took its entire crew of 177 souls to the bottom and actual reason of sinking reason remains unknown.
You can easily combine visit to Kadrioga with Russalka. Further 3 km is interesting memorial: Memorial to the Victims of Communism which gives good contrast to this memorial.
