A good zoo with a good variety of animals
A large zoo with some good enclosures and a good variety of animals. Some of the enclosures are dated, however this is something that is being improved on and there were some former enclosures with a history of zoos and animal parks and the change in standards for animals in captivity. The Polarium was the highlight.

Huge zoo, well worth the money.
Tallinn Zoo is huge! Really huge! I visited the zoo with my Tallinn Card and found getting there very easy from the centre of the city. The bus stops right outside. The zoo is undergoing a lot of renovation and the plans seem to be for a range of zones, boreal, tropical etc. It's not a new zoo, and is tagged as the biggest collection in the northern countries, but it does seem to be in a period of growth. People can have a bad view of zoos, and their treatment of animals, but I honestly believe they are valuable in keeping species from extinction in a human influenced world. I also believe the animals can be very happy and Tallin Zoo did seem to add a lot of enrichment to their enclosures. The animals seemed content. There are a lot of species in this large zoo. Did I say it was large? I spent a good six hours, at least, wandering around. There are plenty of food stands about with friendly staff and many places to sit and relax. Attached to the zoo is an area of Lime woodland with a trail and information. It was beautiful in there, even if I did get bitten to death by mozzies. I enjoyed Tallinn zoo very much. But a word of warning. You will be knackered when you get home. There is a lot of walking. The zoo does provide carts for kids.

    Absolutely amazing zoo.
Absolutely amazing. Practically had the place to myself. Only letdown was I wanted to see the Raccoons but couldn't access where they were. For 21 euros this really is a fantastic day out. It was -8 when I visited but I absolutely loved it, especially the deers and polar bear.

Some staff members don't know words like - "Sorry", "Excuse me" nor "Thank you".
I was excited to take my kids to the Zoo today after 14 years of not visiting but sadly I left feeling very disappointed. Simple politeness and manners are forgotten by some of the staff members but it makes a huge difference when someone addresses you with kind words rather then yelling.

I got yelled at one staff member near the old entrance way in the white staff building when I mistakenly thought I could take the kids bikes for free. There was no signs to tell me that I couldn't or that I had to pay for it.
Not going to return there in any hurry.

The ZOO is ok. Except the polarium - it was excellent.
We enjoyed wathing one of the bear swimming near the window and eating his lunch. The polarium has good layout. There is also a lot of well structured information about polar bears in 3 languages (EE, ENG, RU)

Very large park with very few animals, most cages were empty. Would not recommend. The restaurant was very dirty and food was just a few option of salads only.

The zoo was some kind of a dissapointment. Price for two adults and a 2 year old was 30 euros. We spent 2 hours in the zoo and barely saw animals.

We didn’t expect for animals to dance and sing for us, but the distances were huge between animals and most of the ‘cages’ were empty.

Well, we saw two elephants, some monkeys, a few birds and goats. Thats basically it. And we did try to look for the animals for our little one to get familiar with.

In their defence there were some reconstruction, but you could warn about it before hand.

In conclusion, we thought we would’ve better spent the money on a nice dinner somewhere.

Too small enclosures for animals, especially for birds like eagles, hawk, owls etc. If you care about animals you will feel terrible after.

You pay 40€ for a trip in a zoo where you only see is empty gates. No animals. Only empty gates. Never go on mondays, you pay the same price. But you wont see 9/10 of the animals you wanted to.

I've heard lots of negative things about the ethics of this place and how they treat their animals but I was positively surprised. There were lots of signs saying they're constantly improving the living conditions of the animals and it really looked like it too. There were construction sites where they were building new places for the animals. Some animals still didn't have very good conditions yet. The seals and chimps stayed on my mind, their environments weren't so good but I believe it when they say they're improving. Nice experience overall!
