It seems what this place needs very, very, very badly is money, so for the animals sake I feel a bit bad for writing such a bad review. When I visit the center of Tallin I always feel its very clean, from many parts very well restaured but also modern so I have come to expect a certain standard if you will. Visiting zoo's is never alltogether without ethical problems and no zoo is perfect. But visiting Tallin zoo was like going 30 years back in time. The inclosures for the most part were small, really small for example alligators, seals and parrots. Some of the animals seemed to be sick for instance a tiny monkey with an eye infection of some sort. Ofcourse animals will sometimes be ill, but it would be nice to have maybe information about this so you know the animals are getting proper care. In Finland it is illegal to feed live animals to animals in zoo's, not here I realized as I heard petryfied screams from the raccoon enclosure where a raccoon was tearing up some poor small animal. Again I realize animals in the wild do eat other animals and it is not pretty but at least in the wild they also have a chance of escape.

Visited here recently and I felt like it was such a sad zoo. I felt so sorry for the animals :( obviously a lot of animals were inside as it was mid Feb so freezing, the elephants indoor enclosure is tiny and there was two of them in this tiny space. The polar bears were displaying signs of distress- walking back and forth over and over for hours in the same space. There were two monkeys out in the outside enclosure and they were just cuddled up holding eachother. The meerkats are all piled into a little area. Felt really sad walking around there :( Was only a fiver so didn’t mind spending that.

Had a nice time. We paid for a small trolley 5 eur because our 3-y old could get tired and it was good for our bags. I enjoyed that there were toilets at good distances!! I myself am last months pregnant so i enjoyed having the chance to have toilets in many places. We came on Monday and unfortunately the indoor exhibitions were closed, which we didnt know. Some birds were quarantined? But still lot to see. We had the chance to see leopard finally. Ive been to the zoo about 5-6 times and never saw the cat, so I was very happy about that!!

The grounds are very nice and there's a lot of walking if you intend to see everything. Guidance around the park could be better and even outside - we had a hard time finding the place. Animals have very large areas to walk around in, some of the older cages are smaller though. Not too many visitors around so you could walk around pretty much by yourself. We had lunch at one of the cafe's, food was good and portions big.

It happened to go there on a very hot summer day, so many of the animals were inside hiding from the heat. Yet, this was probably the reason it wasn't so Crowded there. We didn't see polar bear, he was also inside and not showing his new awesome pool. Kids zoo is more of just a coats now. Also if you want to feed birds, bring 20 cent coins with you.

I’m not a great lover of zoo’s aka animal jails but as my wife does unfortunately that means I have to attend them and this is bar far the worst zoo I have ever had the unpleasure of visiting (I have never left a bad review of a zoo before and positively enjoyed Singapore zoo).
The compounds for the animals especially the birds and seals are tiny (the KGB prison cells in Tallinn were bigger........) Whilst many of the animals can deal with the freezing nature of the area having rhinos and elephants is absurd and yes these animals were inside in the warm when we visited the space they had was tiny.....
Whilst the zoo is very cheap to visit please treble/quadruple the costs so you can buy more land/build bigger areas for the animals

Polar bears were awesome. Price was good but in the zoo there is too much like dears and that type of animals, those are not interesting at all.

Very reasonably priced! I brought the ticket using the self service system which was great, only €5 for a adult!
I feel the zoo itself is a great day out and spread across far and wide. A couple of cafes to take a rest in too. (Although the signs pointing you in the direction of the animals were a little confusing at times) You could easily spend 3-4 hours here.
The enclosures all seemed a little run down and tired. Lacking in space in most cases and it would have been nice to see some more enrichment put in place as quite a few animals were pacing, looking a little stressed or even depressed in some cases. Which didn’t leave me feeling very good. It seemed like some of them wanted to go inside but were not able to because the door was shut? :(.
I would much rather pay more for admittance and the enclosures to be updated and improved?
One of the more disappointing zoos I’ve been too, just left me feeling quite sad really. Although I do appreciate what zoos do for protecting our species, breeding programs and research.

Hello,
I was wondering if there are Moose in the zoo?
Heard they can be spotted around Estonia but unsure if its true? Would love to see one - if not, Canada awaits!
Thanks
I haven't seen any at the Tallinn Zoo but many in the woods. So maybe take a hike instead ;)
