The memorial is a moving tribute to a shipwreck that I had not been previously aware of. An older Estonian woman passing by gave us a little history lesson about the wreck and what it meant to her country. Be aware that there is nothing stopping people from walking on top of the straight part of the monument, which means that you can walk all the way to the end, where it drops off precipitously. (It's actually set up in a way that kind of invites you to do just that.) Some teenagers were walking to the edge when we were there, and I shudder to think what would have happened if they had fallen. My daughter called it the "Museum of Parental Torture" for the anxiety it created in me. Please keep an eye on children who are not old enough to realize how dangerous it could be.

Very touching monumet to those people who lost their live in that horrible shipwreck 1994. Scaled to amout of passengers, more people lost their life than shipwreck of Titanic 1912.

Passed by this memorial by chance while walking back from the harbor to the city center. It’s sad, but beautifully done.

A grim reminder of this tragic loss of life in the Baltic Sea. A horrible ferry accident that emphasizes the power of nature and the fragility of life. Great place to pause and reflect in the middle of exploring Tallinn.

This monument stands at northern end of Pikk just beyond Fat Margaret as a memorial to 852 people who died in Estonia ferry disaster that happened in September 1994. This urved black slab thoughtfully designed remind the agony of those families who lost their near and dear.

Broken Line is a ship like shape made from steel erected in one of the main street streets in memory of the 852 people who lost their lives in the Estonia passenger ferry catastrophe in 1994. It is a nice park like atmosphere where citizens can setup for a picnic. I believe the street name is Mere, a main path for public transportation.

The artwork commemorating the 852 lives lost when the ship Estonia sunk in Finnish waters in 1994 doesn't draw attention to itself. Maybe it fits too well to the park surrounding Old town as I hadn't noticed it before. Formed by a broken steel line it was designed by Estonian Villu Jaanison and Finnish Jorma Mukala emphasizing the scale of the accident well.

I passed by this monument on the way to the port and stopped for a quick look. In 1994 a ferry sank between Tallinn and Stockholm which resulted in the deaths of 852 people, most of the bodies were never found. It is quite a beautiful monument but certainly not worth a special trip to see it.

The Estonia ferry was sailing from Tallinn to Stockholm on the night of 28 September 1994. It was a stormy weather, the upwards-opening visor separated and the ship sank. 852 died, 757 of whom were never found. Only 137 survived.
