About
Patkuli viewing platform is situated in one of the most ancient parts of Tallinn. It has fairytale views of the Old Town and its towers and walls, all the way down to the port. The stairway leading up to the platform was constructed in 1903. There are 157 steps connecting Toompea to the town below, with the stairway coming out in Toompark by the Shnelli pond.

This is the place to get your postcard picture you see on sale everywhere :). You have to climb steep chairs to get there but it is worth it!

A stunning view of the old town of Tallinn
Jan 2020
This viewing point gives you one of the best views of the beautiful orange towers, outer wall, St olafs church and the bay of Tallinn in the background. There are 2 ways to access the platform, one is by the patkuli stairs which is shorter but more steeper. our preferred route was from the cobbled street pikk jalg route which takes you past the Aleksander Nevski Cathedral then through some souvenir shops and almond sellers and the climb is a lot lighter. This is a must see place if you visit Tallinn, as it is the picture that everybody should have as a memory of this wonderful medieval capital city.

Excellent viewing platform - you’ll get great panoramic photos of Old Town. We visited during the day while on a walking tour, then returned at night.

Do NOT miss!

The panoramic view of the town from here is amazing! The only thing that "ruins" it is the Hotel Viru which if you know the story behind this Soviet building...it's very interesting!
