This museum is located in the former kitchen building of the Kadriorg Palace.
Johannes Mikkel donated his large art collection to the Art Museum of Estonia in 1994. You can see it here.
After visiting the stunning Kadriorg Palace, this museum felt a little bit modest.

We visited Mikkel using a combined ticket for the three museums in Kadriorg Park - good value for money. Incredibly small museum but it has some interesting exhibits including some extremely old books. Kardriog is a nice area for a wander so I'd recommend calling in here while in the area.

The Mikkel Museum is a curious addition to the Tallinn museum scene. Located in the Kadriorg park area with a bunch of other museums, Mikkel showcases the personal collection of one Estonian man who would not bow to Soviet sameness, but filled his apartment with (what he thought were) priceless artifacts from all over the world.
Now, to be honest, his enthusiasm was greater than his knowledge on these matters, and while he did accumulate a good many genuine pieces, he also found a lot of reproductions and outright fakes. Still, this museum stands as a testament to one man's search for beauty, which should be applauded in itself.
Compared to the other museums at the park, this is still more of a curiosity though, one that I visited thanks to it being included in the Tallinn card, which I definitely recommend!

We purchased a combo ticket at Kadriorg Art Museum and visited this Museum though it was drizzling a bit. Located in the midst of enchanting park, this place that was kitchen building of Kadriorg Palace, houses the largest and rare private collection donated by Johannes Mikkel. Opened in 1997, the permanent exhibition consist of western European, Russian, Chinese and Estonian art between 16th to 20th centuries. The brochure of exhibition is quite educative and as well as informative.

I found the exhibit in the museum to be a bit quirky; upstairs artifacts were interesting enough. They have a locker area where you can secure your backpack, etc. When I visited, it was $5€ to enter. The lady selling the tickets was a bit forceful, but I suspect it was more due to a language barrier than anything. Overall, an interesting enough place to visit.

We came here only because it was included in the 3 museum ticket we bought at the palace (€12.00 per adult).

Nice but small Exhibition (few rooms) of Georgian painter Pirosmani. Combine tickets to Kadriog Palace and you can spend couple of hours.

In the former Kadriorg Palace, an exquisite exhibition of 600 exhibits was set up. This collection includes Flemish paintings, Italian engravings, porcelains. The collector gave it to the Estonian state. The museum is located just across the street from Kadriorg Palace. Now the street that divides them is under reconstruction, but it is not too much discomfort to reach the Mikkel Museum. Stop to admire the collector's effort and even admire personal items and you will even see it on a screen.

You can combine your visit to Mikkel with your visit to Kadriorg palace and Kumu. It used to be a private collection of different types of exotic items by a collector whose first name was Mikkel, hence the name. The building has two floors and is not that big. An hour is probably the maximum amount of time you need to be there.
