Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This street emerged in the 11th century as a path connecting the trade route of the Pärnu Highway and the Town Hall Square.

One of the highlights of the street is the Cat's Well on Rataskaevu Plats.

Right in front of the well is Rataskaevu 16, a haunted house where the devil is known to have celebrated his wedding.

Now Rataskaevu 16 is a restaurant. You can find also many other restaurants on this street.

Although there are quite a few historical buildings, RS is not an attraction per se. It is a bit too touristy and busy. There are quite a few nice shops and restaurants. Having said that, it is almost certain that you will see it while in Tallinn.

We were told by our guide on the Free Walking tour that some of Tallinn’s best restaurants are on this street and he is right. The street which is only a short walk from the main square has some great restaurants and the prices are quite acceptable. It is a very pretty street with its own historic well which adds a nice touch. Well worth a visit, some of the restaurants are quite small and popular so reservations are advisable.

This old town is like a fairy tale town, with the town gates, beautiful views, old historic churches and buildings. This street is fun to walk with shops and restaurants.

We visited three restaurants on this street during our stay, Kompressor, Il Gallo Nero and Vegan Restoran V. All were excellent and reasonably priced. A local tour guide suggested the restaurants here are cheaper and higher quality than the ones found only a minute walk away onto the square. There’s also a lovely kitchenware place which has some unique offerings and much nicer than the usual tourist fare.

During our one day visit to Tallinn, we spent most of the day exploring Tallinn Old Town.
By mid-morning we had made our way to the old town’s main square and had taken in the sights there, including the impressive town hall.
From there, we then ventured along Rataskaevu Street to see what it had to offer. We found it to be home to a number of interesting old buildings which are used for a range of different activities. However, the main uses were as restaurants and shops offerings goods such as souvenirs, gifts and antiques.
As we were only in the town for one day, our time was somewhat limited. Consequently, we only managed to spend a relatively short time in the street. However, whilst we there, we managed to have a good look in a couple of the souvenir shops and to purchase a quick snack.
Recommended as a place to visit for keen shoppers!

Rataskaevu is more or less like all the other streets in the old town, but what sets it apart is a row of excellent restaurants. These aren't tourist traps, these are the real deal, restaurants that the locals enjoy just as much and as often as the tourists do. Actually, probably more so, since not all tourists even know to make the distinction. Now that you do, make sure to make a reservation as you pick from these great places. (My favorite is Vegan Restauran V.)

Leading straight off Town Hall Square towards Toompea in the centre of the Old Town, Rataskaevu Street has the best restaurants in Tallinn (far better and cheaper than in Town Hall Square) and some interesting shops

A must while you’re in this special city! Yes, more cobblestones but so worth it to wander this area.
