Interesting museums
Aug 2020
The building is medieval and looks fantastic. The exposition is a part of Maritime Museum and there are a lot of ship models. If you a ship fan, you could spend there 3-4 hours.

Beautiful building with a nice exposition
Sep 2020
Beautiful building from the inside. Usually we just see it from outside at the entrance of the Old Town. But worth a visit, the exposition is very well presented and gives us a lot of information about the history of shipping in Estonia.

Impressive tower
Jan 2020
The medieval Fat Margaret Tower and the Great Coastal Gate next to it were built to defend the city from the seaward side of town.

The tower was completed in 1530. The round tower has a diameter of 25 meters and a height of 20 meters. The walls are 5 meters thick.

After the two-year renovation of the Fat Margaret Tower and the Great Coastal Gate, the Estonian Maritime Museum was opened here in November 2019.

From the tower's rooftop, you have panoramic views of the Tallinn harbor and Old Town.

Highly recommended for visit after renovation
Dec 2019
The Fat Margaret Tower as an original part of the Estonian Maritime Museum was opened after the total renovation on November 28, 2019. And it’s really worth visiting it, if you interested in the topic. Plan at least 1,5 hours just for the exposition.

Superb location
Jan 2020 • Friends
I stayed in room 109 as a single room. With en suite. The room was a good size and was exceptionally clean. The decor was slightly tired but the hostel is extremely well priced and good safe facilities. The location is perfect for easy access to the city and the port. Less than 10 minutes each way. The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful and English was perfect. I would highly recommend. Was an incredibly safe and well run Hostel.

Unusual tower
Nov 2019
The stumpy tower and fine historic ancient gate are attractive to see if you appreciate the history of the town. The tower houses the city’s maritime museum which is worth visiting if you find yourself in this part of Tallinn.

Unmissable on walk in
Sep 2019
Walking in from the cruise port you can't miss this building it stands at the entrance to the old town. There was a fantastic warning sign on the fencing when we were there so good had to take photo of it. The history of the tower is varried having been a prison and a store too. due to the works being carried out it was not easy to access the tower so most people were just walking past it. Even if you can't get inside or you run out of time it is still worth a walk by just to get a feel of the size of the tower it is not that tall but it is "fat" hence the name. Suitable for all ages and those who like history

Recommend. Good
Aug 2019 • Couples
One of the Tallinn most noted and famous attraction. Certainly Recommend. However, it is at the end of Long Pikk and could be missed if you are short of time.

Enormous Squat Tower
Jul 2019 • Couples
Paks Margareeta (Fat Margaret) is a huge squat tower at the Great Coastal Gate of the Old Town. Built in 1530 and now containing Tallinn's Maritime Museum, it is currently closed for renovation; a large part of it is obscured by scaffolding and tarpaulins at present.
