This narrow cobblestone Pikk Jalg is an old atmospheric street. It descends from the upper town (Toompea) to the lower town.

Here you can find small cafes, souvenir shops, and usually artists lining the fortress walls selling their wares. Now there were construction works going on and the artists had disappeared.

The street leads you to a 14th-century gate, an entrance to the lower town.

Be sure to wear comfortable shoes for walking this uneven street.

It's the long "leg" to get from the upper town to the lower town. It's a nice stroll going downhill. You'll pass musicians and painters selling wares along the way.

Best to get a map of the old town and wonder round plenty of photo opportunities as you walk round. Becare some areas are not pedestrian.

we came upon this route by mistake ( another wrong turn ) and it is a nice walk, especially when you are walking down and not up. artist have their paintings displayed on the brick walls. the walls are tall and add atmosphere. few shops to check out on the way. take your time to check out more old buildings as they are beautiful. it is a quieter route and you have time to just stroll.

We had been exploring the upper part of Tallinn Old Town and after taking in the views from the Kohtuotsa viewing point, it was time to make our way back down to the lower section of the old town.
The most direct route for us was via the Long Boot. It was a relatively steep decent at the top and then the slope levelled out quite a bit.
Walking along the cobblestones next to the Old Town walls whist admiring the fine old buildings was quite an experience. The lane was quiet near the top but as we neared the town square at the other end, things became a bit more lively. There were a number of souvenir and gift shops and cafes situated along this part of the lane.
It was certainly an interesting stroll with plenty to see.

This is a good route between the upper and lower towns. It is a fairly gradual slope and with the cobblestones and towering stone walls is very atmospheric. It gives you a good sense of the distinction between the two areas of the old medieval town and is definitely worth visiting.

We spent a day in Tallin with a guide arranged through Viking Cruise Lines. She was very informative, added humor to the tour, and you could sense the passion she had for her country. We stayed after the tour and enjoyed lunch on the Market square. The market was open and there were some really nice things to purchase.

This is one of the two famous paths from the lower town to Toompea Hill. This is a longer route (hence the name). A bit steep but not too bad. Quite a few street musicians vying for your attention and some nice old buildings on both sides. A pleasant enough walk.

Such a pleasure to slowly wander in such a beautiful street in the lovely Tallinn Old Town marvelling at the stunning 14th century buildings, but be sure to do it early morning or late afternoon otherwise you will be swamped by thousands of people who have disgorged from the dreaded cruise liners.

The Long Boot (or Long Road) was the way that wagons were brought through the wall and up to the upper part of the town. It's an interesting way to make your way between the two areas.
