My favorite place in the city
This is my favorite place in the city! Beautiful, ancient town hall, near the square, cafes, souvenir shops, pharmacy. A quiet fairy tale in the city, a return to the past! By the way, only from the square you can see the five main spires - the churches of St. Olaf church (Oleviste), Church of the Holy Spirit (Puhavaimu), St. Nicholas (Niguliste), the Dome Cathedral and the spire of the oldest building (15th century) - the Town Hall, built in the Gothic style. By the way, next to the Town Hall there is a round plate with the image of the wind rose, which is considered the zero meridian. It is from here that you can see all five spires. They say that if you stand on it and make a wish, then it must definitely come true.

    Busy and Characterful Square
This has been an important meeting place since the Middle Ages. It has been the market place and hosted festivals, fairs, concerts and Christmas markets. There are outdoor seating areas for cafes. Buildings surrounding the cobblestone square are characterful, including the very old and impressive Town Hall. There were lots of tourists when we visited but it’s a huge space so wasn’t crowded.

    Tourist square
As soon as I arrived in Tallinn it was the first place I visited and it seemed like all visitors were there too. Tourist milling around taking photos or at the cafes seemed to be the norm at the square. The Town Hall is also another popular attraction there. It is a popular and lively square especially over the holidays. The Christmas market was in full swing here and all was lovely. Live bands, and even heating lamps were all part of it for those patronizing the Chrsitmas market and square.

Beautiful town square with colourful old buildings, restaurants and bars around the outside. Just be wary of the uneven cobbles which caught us out once or twice.

This is a lovely little square in the middle of Tallinn old town.
There are several nice benches scattered in the square with the town hall building dominating it.

Beautiful town square, historic, and well-preserved. A must-see if you're visiting Tallinn. The focal point is the Tallinn Town Hall, and shops and restaurants encompass the rest of the cobblestoned square. If not necessarily geographically/physically, it is certainly the figurative center of Old Town.

A beautiful medieval square overrun with tourists, restaurants and bars with staff heckling you to eat or drink at their establishment. It completely ruins the atmosphere of this square. Why oh why is there an Irish pub on this medieval square?! Hideous! Take a few pics and get out of there, and escape to a back street of old town away from the hoards of tourists.

The square is not that interesting, not having anything in the middle or so, but it surely offers space for different kind of events or markets in the city. And if nothing else, the building around the square create very nice scenery to look at or to take a picture of.

This square is quite beautiful. It’s like going back in time. I enjoyed an ice cream cone while I sat and looked around. Very nice.
