We walked on Toompea Hill to visit the Tall Hermann tower and the Parliament and of course this nice orthodox church. It was built between 1895 –1900. It’s beautiful outside and inside. I liked the marble iconostasis, nice icons and stained glass windows. Unfortunatelly photography is prohibited inside. It’s woth a visit.

Inside is beautiful, and one day I happened upon the actual church service. The singing was so beautiful, they should sell recordings. Very peaceful.

I liked the church of Olaf more. But this one was good as well. Didn't check inside. It's located near the Kiek in de Kök museum.

We fortunately didn't waste a lot of time here. The rule applies inside "no shorts, no photography"...people were asked to leave and there were monitors if you even looked like you were going to take a picture. Walk around outside and then head over to the bastions with some fascinating history.

This place is beautiful and well worth a visit. It is quiet & peaceful. When we visited, it’s was quite empty which meant we got to have a good look around.

Very interesting architecture, well worth a short visit. Convenient to several other tourist attractions in Tallinn. The visit was worth the time if only for the architecture. The interior had a beautiful altar and side chapels. Women are warned the Orthodox church requires women visitors to have head coverings(scarves etc). The exterior construction details are fascinating and not likely seen in Western European or North American cathedrals. The association with the Russian church is a bit off-putting and the attendants were not particularly friendly. Nevsky himself had an interesting life and the Cathedral helps put it in some context. Probably spend about 1 hour here. Easy to get to from Old Town but it is a bit of an uphill walk.

The interior is sumptious and rich. an array of saints and other ritual figures adorn the walls and there were plenty of people inside taking their spritiual rest. The exterior is a suitably over the top array of onion shaped domes. simply lovely.

The onion shaped Russian Orthodox Cathedral does look out of place at the top of the old town amongst all the medieval towers and walls. Built around 1900 you can get to the area either long or short street - depending how energetic you are feeling .
Lovely to walk inside and admire the surroundings.

I thought this was an interesting church to visit because of its Russian Orthodox influence, which is definitely different than most churches I've been to.

Naming a cathedral after a conquering prince in the country that your government wants to control against their will may seem provocative to anyone but the Russians. So be it. Alexander Nevsky successfully invaded and defeated Estonia in the late 13th century and his namesake bishop’s church was built between 1894 and 1900. It is widely considered to be Tallinn's grandest Orthodox site.

The exterior and interior are equally impressive in appearance, with active religious services ongoing both times that I visited. Three altars with gilded, carved wooden iconostases and four icon boxes greet visitors, although no photography is allowed inside. Even though the cathedral isn’t tourist-friendly, it does provide an important contrast to St. Mary's, its Toompea neighbor. As much as St. Mary's embodies an example of Estonian Christianity in Tallinn, this church is Russian through-and-through, without a bit of indigenous language or culture found within. A worthwhile, if brief, visit especially right after seeing its neighbor on the hill.
