About
This jumble of 14th- and 15th-century architecture with its medieval walls, needling spires and twisting, cobblestone streets is also the site of many of the city's important historic attractions and museums including the House of the Brotherhood of the Blackheads, St. Catherine's Guild and the 15th-century Guildhall that now houses the History Museum.

What a truly wonderful old town
A week's break to celebrate my birthday, beautiful to walk around the old town. Such a scenic town, lovely restaurants, coffee shops and bars to take a break from the bitterly cold weather. Thoroughly enjoyed it

    Nice but for tourists
Lots to do and see, fair prices. Liked the castle walls and several museums in the same area. Large bar scene in the evening or clubs as some want to be called. Weekends very noisy but the hotel I was at I didn't hear a thing once inside.

    Beautiful Old Town
We visited Tallinn for a day from Helsinki. The old town is very impressive. The building is medieval and beautiful. the streets are also medieval styled, the churches and cathedrals are worth a visit. There are also a lot of souvenir shops and good quality restaurants. What I liked the most is the city walls, they are well maintained and definitely worth to visit. I suggest to visit the town by walk rather than by car.

    perfect for Photography
My trip involved both Helsinki, Finland and Tallinn, Estonia. I kinda thought going into the trip I would enjoy Tallinn much more and I was right. I just enjoyed the old streets, buildings and the colors I just felt very comfortable in the old town area. My hotel I was not a fan of but it was in old town area so that was a plus. I feel like if you enjoy photography you will have a lot of choices for very cool pics. I felt it was one of the nicer old towns. I would suggest going to this area. My first couple hours in the area I got lost it's so easy to get turned around and have no idea where you are. After the next day it was easy to navigate. There are a lot of good places to eat and I found a great gelato places also which was a must. I would say also that Tallinn is much more price friendly compared to Helsinki.

    Excellent medieval experience
We took the cruise from Helsinki to go to Tallinn. A leisurely stroll of the old town on a sunny day. Good gourmet experience at Olde Hansa. We try the Grand Chef’s Feast at lunch. What an experience! The food and the way they were presented. Suggest skipping breakfast because the portion is really big.

    Still a Hidden Gem
Tallinn, Estonia, has yet to become a major tourist destination, but it is a delightful town with many interesting things to explore. We stayed at the Schlossle Hotel and it was wonderful. It's listed as one of the "best hotels in the world'" and it is easy to see why, even though the price was really reasonable. When Estonia gets popular, prices are sure go up. Enjoy it now.

Come Here, Stay Here, Learn About Its History
Tallinn is becoming, deservedly, a popular site to visit. Many people arrive on cruise ships. But we would like to advocate staying here and enjoying this wonderful medieval city both in the day and overnight. The old town of Tallinn is postcard perfect, with medieval walls, architecture, towers, and sights. It would be difficult NOT to take a great picture simply by taking your camera or smart phone and taking a shot. There are countless beautiful vistas, attractive buildings, and views. Just walk along the streets, stop at a cafe, or stop to admire a view. This city is a little like Venice in that you might want to throw away your map and simply wander around seeing things you haven't before. Many visitors are here for the day, but we stayed over a few nights. The city is always attractive, but we especially enjoyed waling around in the evening and simply taking in the sights and atmosphere. In any case, this is the proverbial "find."

The perfect way to set up your city break
What a great place to go to for a short city break. Tallinn old town is very easy to navigate around and I would certainly advocate buying the Tallinn Card which allows entry to many places for free, free transport to visit sites out of the city (recommend the Tallinn TV Tower and the next door Botanical Gardens). Firstly though I advise going to the tourist office at Niguliste 2, and hiring the audio guide. The tour said 2 hours but we took all day at our own pace...........drink stops, lunch etc! This tour gave us an idea to what we might want to come back to eg Fat Margaret. Everyone was so friendly and spoke really good English. Really recommend this as a city break.

The best preserved medieval old town in the Northern Europe
In my opinion, Tallinn has the most charming historic old town in the Northern Europe although Gamla stan in Stockholm and Nyhavn in Copenhagen are also quite nice. It is still a hidden gem to many tourists but it is more and more known as it is quite easy accessable from Helsinki with a 2-hour ferry ride. Medieval town walls with towers are well preserved, the same goes for Toompea Castle (now houses the Estonian parliament) and amazing Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. It must be like a fairytale there when Christmas market tooks place.

One of my most favorite historical city centers
Full of nicely preserved historical walls and buildings. At the same time, full of trees. On the top of that, most of the buildings are in use, showing that it's possible to be respectful to the past, but to live in the present. This all is making Tallinn's historical center one of my most favorite historical sites ever. My especially favorite place are Viru Gates, that you can't miss walking through in any case.

Tallinn Old Town is stunning. So many beautiful buildings to see. Lots of small cobbled streets and passageways. The parks surrounding Old Town are also worth an explore. Lovely coffee places and restaurants to enjoy.

One of the most breathtaking and well preserved old towns in the world. I visited during the Christmas time - the market was so cosy, it was snowing, too. Definitely a winter wonderland.

I have been to 86 countries and this city is one the best places I and my wife have ever visited.

We went in the winter which added to our enjoyment as it was cold and very snowy.

The medieval centre is stunning, loads to see and do.

The people, sites to see, restaurants and bars are excellent.

Go visit and you will not be disappointed.

Quite a compact town centre so easily walkable although Toompea Hill is a bit of a climb, well worth the effort though.

We give this a 5/5 for winter holiday. Everything that you need is walking distance - down a cobblestone road. There are SO many cafe and restaurants and attractions that you see one every time that you turn your head.

The Christmas Market is one of the best that we have been to, FAR better than Manchester UK’s markets.

Everything is in Estonian/ English/ Russian. Some businesses, like the Chinese food stall in the market only speak English.

For those with a keen eye try to find the gallery with the photo I have uploaded. You have to look into a gallery window that looks down into the cellar.

Tallinn old town is pretty small, yet totally enjoyable.
You could easily walk its beautiful preserved old street in half a day and see everything there is to see.

This is the best old town that I’ve seen in Europe. The walls around the town are largely intact as are a lot of the buildings. It a nice place to walk around and look at all the old stuff. Really great.

Two words: tourist trap. Two words I wish the heck I'd seen in any of the many write-ups I read before I came. Not all bad but should've come years earlier or gone elsewhere.
