About
This jumble of 14th- and 15th-century architecture with its medieval walls, needling spires and twisting, cobblestone streets is also the site of many of the city's important historic attractions and museums including the House of the Brotherhood of the Blackheads, St. Catherine's Guild and the 15th-century Guildhall that now houses the History Museum.

Did a day trip to Tallinn from Helsinki. Was truly impressive on how well preserved the old town was.

The town is small and you can easily walk around while enjoying some the local dishes by stopping by one of the many pretty cafes.

Make sure to check out the Beautiful Christmas market in Old Town.

Lots of Christmas theme gifts which you can buy from Christmas decorations to chocolates.

Make you try the hot wine and local sausages. It’s an wonderful way to warm yourself up.

Just be careful if you going with kids as it’s pretty crowded and it’s easy to get separated

We took the ferry from Helsinki to Estonia and it was a fun experience. The ferry itself is a whole thing! But upon arrival, we enjoyed the lovely city center, old world vibes and the pretty and fun Christmas market. Super cute holiday "train" around downtown and lots of little shops and vistas to enjoy!

If man orders a taxi, you have to trust that it stands. Not in Tallinn 🥵 we ordered a taxi and we had a estime of 17 min wait, after 30 min we still waited, not acceptable🙃

WOW! What a gem! Went for the day and walked around. There are old Russian churches and remnants of the former USSR. It was like walking through history. Get your walking shoes on because you won't be disappointed with a cup of coffee to go and explore the city!

I've found many other reviews on here for Tallinn Old Town to be lacking in helpful info so here are some hot tips for exploring the area:
- The town is not extremely wheelchair friendly. Lot's of (gorgeous) steep and cobbled streets that may not lend themselves to a positive experience for anyone with physical limitations. Prams can also be tricky in places. Suggest baby carriers if you have little ones.
- We visited in December and in just 3 days we felt like we experienced 4 seasons. The roads, and paths in particular, can be extremely icy and slippery when the snow melts.
- You can easily guide yourself around Old Town without booking official tours. There is ample historic information printed on plaques all around Old Town. Use your money for direct entry to the various museums instead. Example: we looked at booking a walking tour of Kiek in de Kok for 64€ each, but decided to go ourselves instead - direct entry was 12€ each including the Bastion Passages. Of course the tour guides often have a little extra info to provide but we found self-guided was informative enough for us.
- There are more than 43 museums in Tallinn. Choose carefully if time is limited! 🤣
- English is spoken and understood widely. Coming from Australia we found no language barriers.
- There are cafes restaurants and bars EVERYWHERE! Don't be afraid to go down the smaller alleys and streets in Old Town. Many of the best meals and drinks we had were in smaller places where we had to go downstairs and underground. This is normal.
- Tallinn City wifi is available in the main/central areas of Old Town like Town Square. Very helpful if using Google Maps!
- You can get a full colour printed map for free at the Tourist Information Centre.

We found 3 days in Old Town to be ample, but we're sad we didn't have more time to explore the rest of the city!
Hope these tips are helpful!!

The Old Town is beautiful being 14th century and mostly in damaged by the centuries. Just returned from the Christmas market which was beautiful in the snow. Olde Hanse is a must visit restaurant as is Troika and also The Pepper pot. The Museums, tunnels, streets of shops and city wall and towers all make for an excellent long weekend

Tallinn is an adorable old town! There are cobblestoned streets and historic buildings. Several good restaurants and shops are in the middle of the square. It's easy to walk everywhere with so many lovely things to see. I was here for the marathon weekend and it didn't disappoint!

It’s a beautiful and important area in the city, it added to the world heritage list in 1997. It consists of lots of historic buildings, streets, squares, green parks and fortifications around. Tallinn lived its heyday in 15-16 century. We arrived here from Helsinki by ship for 3 days. We loved walking in narrow streets looking at the nice old buildings or sitting in a cafe. It’s a must-see place!

I feel like when you want to explore the Estonian history it is the best place to visit, as it has lots of different museums, restaurants and everything is just a walk away. Also theatres and shopping malls.
