We always go to the big market in town and this one was quite impressive. Lots of food to buy and very friendly merchants who are willing to have a conversation with you. We took a lot of photos.

I have no words to say how beautiful and marvelous is this market, near to historic downtown and beside the railway and bus station. Very clean, safe, has excellent restaurants and food stores, vegetable fair and a lot of thrift stores. Take your time to visit this market with no hurry, as it is one of the best central markets in the whole of Europe.

I entered to this market place accidentally and it was very interesting experience. It was normal working day forenoon and market place was quite calm and quiet. Even though, there was many market vendors selling their stuff. By stuff, I mean everything between vegetables, clothes, second hand furnitures, food and pets. Prices were low and I guess locals prefer this market for their daily consumer goods purchasing.

This was very nice short stop for local atmosphere.

A real market with real people and no tourists. A miracle in over-polished and touristy Tallinn. Hope it will survive modernisation and mall-society.

The place is where local come to buy, TRUE, but it is very basic, aside from fruits, nothing else interesting.

Balti Jaam Market is totally different, much bigger with more varieties, much more interesting and of course locals come to buy and eat here as well. Could easily spend 1 or 2 hrs here

Off the beaten track of the Tallinn Old Town tourist area you can go experience where the locals really shop. One of my favorite things to do when traveling is to try to experience how the locals live - one of the best ways is to find one of the local markets that are full of stalls with produce, meat and fish shops, clothes and other items. Generally, when you see locals going to or coming from some out of the way area carrying their bags of fresh food etc, you can find them. In this case we located Keskturg on an early Sunday morning and I would recommend a look. If you are doing a local stay in a self serving apartment or AirBNB you can get some very fresh food and a much lower price - this would be one of the places for that. We enjoyed the real life that we experienced here. If you are looking for tourist items and over packaged food this is not the place for you.

We rented an apartment a few blocks from here, so this market is perfect for our needs. Outside of the Central market there are hundreds of vendors selling all kinds of clothes, fruits, spices, and vegetables. I did not see any touristy kitsch. Our first visit we bought our fruits and vegetables we would need for a week. We bought the other goods we needed in the grocery store next door. On other visits, we went into the central market hall. There is every kind of meat, both fresh and processed, one can think about. It seemed like the locals love their sausages and smoked meats. I tried one short, fat sausage which seemed to me similar to a knockwurst. On the second tier, there are more clothes vendors. This hall is much smaller than ones we have visited in other countries. This is the type of place I love to visit.

This market hall is so pretty so see and offers a big choice of different stuff. You can find here food, souvenirs and even books in russian language. It got renovated just a few years ago. The prettiest market hall I´ve visited.

We spent over 2 hours here and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. The fresh fruit, vegetables, berries & mushrooms were of excellent quality yet moderately priced. Similarly, the meat market had a great variety of fine cuts at good prices. Lastly, we have to mention the awesome smoked fish which was a must buy..
Not impressive were the dry goods, clothing, etc...mostly inferior quality but priced to sell.
