About
NUKU theatre & museum is the country’s only professional puppet centre. The theatre aims to offer high quality and diverse visual theatre and puppetry to all ages. The museum's main exhibition starts from the very beginning. You can touch air and see what puppetry does to water, fire and earth - the main elements of everything we see. Then, you can visit the Marionette Room, Rod and Glove Puppet Room, Table Puppet Room and Body Puppet Room. What are their stories, how each puppet is moved and how different puppets really are? These are the questions you will find answers to - and of course, you can try them out on your own, too! Alongside theatre puppets we also have mechanical puppets and The Wardrobe of an Actor where you can try on many costumes and wigs... The exhibition also introduces many theatre positions and jobs such as the Artistic Director, Prop Maker, Puppeteer, Stage Hand and Manager, Make-Up Artist, Costume Maker and so on. The building also has a small cafe.

Fascinating exploration of puppetry and theatre over time. Loved ‘le petit gavroche’ and the steam punk puppetry. Fascinating to watch clips of performances on their time machine.

Great place to visit with kid(s) as I did and to be honest, I did enjoy seeing a lot of "good old friends" that became familiar when I was a child. I especially enjoyed the video section in the basement area where you can select the actors/shows from recent years and decades ago.
Most certainly recommend this place to locals and tourists alike.

A nice small museum in Tallinn old town. Probably more interesting for local people who have some experience in the puppetry theatre to have a kind of "I remember..." effect as well (but sure I can be wrong about that). This time a very interesting exhibition about Urmas Alender was presented there but again - I believe it is for people who remember this actor and singer.

This museum and theatre centre is really a hidden gem for many tourists. Good introduction to all kind of aspects of the art of puppetry. Many exhibition rooms where great fun, although some of the rooms might be a bit scary for children under 4 years old. But even those are ok, if accompanied by an adult.

This interactive theater museum is great for the whole family. The museum lets you take a peek behind the scenes, bring a puppet to life and more.

If you have a Tallinn card, you get free admission...

Very much overpriced in the summer months when the puppeteers are on leave. A very small museum, not as interactive as the young lady at the ticket desk claimed. Some very lovely exhibits though.

It was raining outside so we popped in to see what the exhibit was like. I was not expecting much, but it was actually quite nice hands on experience. The scariest (most fun) part was going down the stairs into the cellar.

The Art Nouveau building housing the Puppet theatre burts with colour inside with a cafeteria in red and specially designed chairs in the lobby. Take a look inside even if you don't plan to visit the museum or see a play. Opposite on Nunne street is a fine old fashioned cafeteria Pagari Poised on two floors and another bakery with very reasonable prices next to it.

We had a great time although we were only adults visiting. Affordable and full of surprises! It would be nice if they offered puppets for sale in the shop.
