About
Medieval adventure! If you come to visit us you will arrive to the 16th century! We have a thematic park where children and grownups can enjoy the day, wear knight and warrior clothes, play games and study the life of medieval people. One of the main reasons to come and visit Rakvere Castle are the Chambers. Torture Chamber, Chamber of Death and HELL. Worth of visit is also Red Lights street, Medieval Brothel, Barber shop and Alchemic room. Quests are welcoming also different animals and the gloriest of them al is a Donkey called Mickens!

It was a nice surprise to find out that they provide fun activities inside. Also different domestic animals such as goats, horses, ponies and goose were walking around loose.

Recommended for everyone from kids to grannies. Not wheelchair-accessible, though.

Interesting show

We took a guided tour and learn a lot about middle ages, knights, alchemy, everyday life. They perform a few shows that are really interesting for kids and adults.

Lovely day trip

Fun day trip destination. Went with my boyfirend and we both liked it a lot. There are free roaming animals, a chance to try your skills on a bow and mini crossbow, some informational rooms and tours about history and they fire a cannon once a day.

Rakvere town itself has really nothing to offer except this grand castle which absolutely is worth a visit !
Inside the thick and majestic castle walls you will find lots of activities !
People dressed in medieval costumes make your visit extra special and exciting . You really feel like you’ve just been transported several hundred years back in time .
Don’t miss this place ! Strong recommendation .

Not worth the price at all
Aug 2020 • Friends
At least half of the things in the castle were not operating but we still had to pay the full price, 11€ per person, so it was definitely not worth it at all. The castle itself had barely any of the normal things available, so basically the only things to do were different activities for kids and looking at farm animals.

The torture chamber was open at least, so I gave 2/5 because of that. This was quite cheap looking but something different at least, especially the ”walk through hell”.

Maybe it would be worth the price if everything was open and if you were traveling with kids, but otherwise, there are much nicer castles available in the balkans and even in Estonia.

Interesting castle though probably better in touristic season
Aug 2020
Interesting castle but not much to see inside. The highlight of the trip was a cannon shoot that we happened to witness but that's it. Nice place and probably busier and more eventful during the touristic season! A bit disappointed that the torture chamber/Hell (or whatever they were called) were closed by the time we visited the castle

Must visit
Sep 2019 • Couples
Different from google pictures and outer view the castle is way more detailed. The history is brought to you by many different ways. There is many medieval caracters walking around. There is also many fun events and acts you can participate. Overall it left us very amused and will recommend.

A bit of Medieval fun!
Sep 2019
Rakvere Castle has been transformed somewhat into its former glory.

Inside you can try your hand at archery, make your own souvenir coin, attend a puppet show (in Estonian), watch the history of swords (also in Estonian), walk around the old walls and turrets, browse through some historical information as well as many more hands on activities.

Although it wasn’t what we were expecting, if you’re looking for a fun afternoon of Medieval activities then Rakvere Castle is the place to be.

The Castle itself was quite beautiful and for a family, you could probably spend a few hours here.

!4th Century Castle
Aug 2019
We enjoyed our excursion here; a little bit kitschy, but overall a positive and educational experience. The castle is in pretty good shape for its age and it's easy to get a feel for what it was like when it was being used as a fortress; from its location high on a hill, one can see for miles around. There are various displays around the castle explaining Estonian history and there are people in period clothing. We were served a lovely meal there with a choice of beverages, including a nice cider. For me, the highlight was the firing of the cannon; it was accompanied with a lot of fanfare and was loud, but not so loud one had to cover their ears. This is a good activity for the whole family.

The castle and entertainment are pretty average. We went with the Norwegian excursion and it was not worth our time. Although Historic Tallinn is small believe the way time could have been better spent there.
