About
The so called Tallinn Gate used to mark the beginning of the postal road from Parnu to Tallinn and was built during the Swedish period in the 17th century. The medieval fortification system of Parnu was almost fully destroyed in the preceding Livonian War. The town was surrounded by an entrenchment and one could leave the town through the Vee varav (Water gate) which led to the riverside and into the direction of Riga.During the teardown of the fortification in the 19th century only the Tallinn Gate was preserved, as well as the embankments and the trench that leads to the Venuse Bastion at the riverside - the so called Vallikaar. Now visitors are welcome to walk through the monumental Baroque gate and marvel at the beautiful beach district of Parnu!

Walk through this gate and you enter the historic Old Town of Parnu. Another of the Baroque gems that walking around this town offers. The outside area has a nice park with riverside walk. Good place to stop on a walk or run.

The gate is part of the old wall, now there is a nice park and a canal with a fountain to stroll around or just sit on a bench and look at the beautiful water lilies.

To photograph the beauty of the gate it would be best to come when the crowds have dissipated. I was here at around 4 PM in the afternoon, and the sea of people was unbearable.

Impressive gate in a nice park where you can stroll and also enjoy the water. If you're lucky there's a concert near by and you can enjoy the music as well.

western end of the old town, we exited through the Tallinn Gate, the only remaining of the town, and the only gate from the 17th century still standing in the Baltic States.

It's not a huge site but it's easy to appreciate the importance and structure of this gate.
A little unkempt at the moment but worth seeing and wandering about the gardens

Beautiful gate but not really that much more to see that to walk through it. A plaque next to it shares some info but a nice photo spot near the lake.
